What you will do: 

The operations technician will operate and maintain pilot equipment to demonstrate – at scale – the separation, distillation, and formation of pure iron from mined ore. In this role, you will: 

  • Operates a variety of chemical and hydrometallurgical process equipment, including tanks, pumps, mixers, filtration, heat exchangers, cranes, and conveyors
  • Enables and monitors electrical tests, including managing connections, overseeing program runs, and supervising live-time data collection
  • Collects experimental data, including taking measurements of pressure and temperature as well as samples from the process stream
  • Assists with safety reviews and identifies opportunities of improvement
  • Troubleshoots equipment and makes recommendations to improve the robustness, reliability, and efficiency of equipment
  • Calibrates and performs routine maintenance tasks as needed
  • Collaborates with internal teams, vendors, and outside agencies as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

What we need you to bring to the team:  

  • Associate degree in mechanical engineering, chemistry, chemical engineering or related field of study; a directly related certification; or an equivalent combination of related education and experience
  • 3 years of related experience
  • Basic understanding of process monitoring (e.g. sensors for pressure, temperature, flow, etc) and process control
  • Experience operating fluid flow equipment such as pumps, common plumbing fittings, and valves
  • Familiarity with electrical concepts of voltage and current
  • Experience maintaining equipment and instrumentation such as calibrations, replacements, and control charts
  • Experience with or willingness to learn about chemical and electrical safety
  • Basic organizational and time management skills
  • Basic verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with, or ability to quickly learn, Microsoft Office suite of programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive, and SharePoint.

What we want you to bring to the team:  

  • Experience with analytical techniques such as pH measurement, titration, ICP-OES, and density measurements
  • Experience writing and modifying standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Experience with writing and modifying safety procedures

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand/sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to operate the following equipment and tools: overhead cranes, scissor lifts, and forklift

 Compensation:  

  • The anticipated starting pay range for this position is $25.00 to $30.00 hourly and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.
