About the company:

ICEYE is a Finnish space technology company that owns and operates the world's largest commercial synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite constellation. The company delivers continuous, all-weather, day-and-night Earth observation capabilities, enabling persistent monitoring and rapid detection of changes at any location on the planet. Its core offerings span SAR data products, mission systems for sovereign governments, defense and intelligence solutions, and natural catastrophe monitoring for the insurance, banking, and public sectors. ICEYE plays a significant role in climate resilience and disaster response by providing near real-time, observed data on natural catastrophes such as floods, wildfires, and hurricanes. Unlike traditional modelling approaches, ICEYE delivers actual satellite-derived flood extents and depths, empowering governments, insurers, and utilities to respond faster and more accurately to climate-driven disasters. This capability supports community resilience, more precise insurance claims processing, and informed policy decisions in the face of increasing climate risk. What distinguishes ICEYE is its combination of the largest SAR constellation globally, sub-meter (25 cm) resolution imagery, and an end-to-end operational intelligence infrastructure that includes deployable ground units capable of compressing collection-to-dissemination timelines to minutes. Founded with a mission to make Earth observation data continuously available and actionable, ICEYE serves defense, intelligence, government, and commercial clients worldwide, positioning itself as a critical enabler of both national security and climate adaptation efforts.

  • Mission Delivery Engineer

  • Department: Missions Line of Business

  • Location: ICEYE Lisbon, Portugal

  • Reports to: VP of Program Management, dotted line to Portugal CEO

  • Employment type: Permanent

  • Working type: Hybrid (3 days / week in office)

  • Must be eligible and able to attain relevant national and NATO security clearances

Why this role matters

You keep ICEYE Portugal's technical programs on track. We run a growing portfolio of engineering programs, from space and connectivity projects with European agencies to intelligence-platform deployments for national customers, and each one needs plans that hold, risks surfaced early, and stakeholders who always know where things stand. You work directly with the CEO and the leadership team, owning the program mechanics so the engineers can build and the leadership can decide.

Expected outcomes

Program planning & control

  • Own schedules, milestones and work breakdown across assigned programs; keep the critical path visible and honest.

  • Track budgets, procurement status and deliverables against plan; flag deviations early with options, not surprises.

  • Maintain risk registers and drive mitigation actions to closure.

Stakeholder & reporting rhythm

  • Prepare and run the reporting cadence: progress reports, milestone reviews and steering meetings with customers, agencies and partners.

  • Produce clear, decision-ready material for internal leadership and external stakeholders.

  • Coordinate across ICEYE entities and external suppliers; chase dependencies across time zones and organisations.

  • Act as the interface between customer and the product, surfacing requirement gaps to product and engineering before they become delivery risks.

Programme operations

  • Own documentation, configuration and action tracking for reviews and formal gates.

  • Support contract administration: deliverable acceptance, milestone evidence, change requests.

  • Continuously improve how we plan and report; keep the tooling light and useful.

What we're looking for

Must-haves

  • 3+ years in technical project or program management within engineering, space, telecom, defence or similarly demanding domains.

  • Proven ability to run schedule, risk and budget tracking on multi-team technical projects.

  • Excellent written reporting: you produce material that senior stakeholders and agencies act on.

  • Organised, proactive and comfortable chasing dependencies across teams and companies.

  • Fluent spoken and written English.

  • Based in (or willing to relocate to) Lisbon.

Nice to have

  • Experience with ESA or other institutional space program (reviews, deliverable documentation, milestone gates).

  • Experience across the full program lifecycle: shaping the initial idea / bid management, execution through delivery, and formal closure.

  • PMP / PRINCE2 / agile certification.

  • Engineering degree or technical background enabling credible dialogue with engineers.

  • Experience in a startup or scale-up environment.

  • Portuguese language.
