What you will do: 

As a Mechanical Engineering Technician, you will focus on building, maintaining, and operating custom-built systems for chemical processes.  

The majority of your time will be spent hands-on in the lab surrounded by other engineers and scientists who can provide guidance and support.  In this role you will:  

  • Build process equipment with a focus on first-of-a-kind pilot plant systems 
  • Assist with equipment design
  • Perform machining tasks including drilling, cutting, coating, and welding
  • Operate laser cutters and 3D printers 
  • Maintain equipment and instrumentation to include calibrations, routine maintenance, replacements, and control charts
  • Assist with the development of safety-first standard operating procedures.
  • Assist with data acquisition and data analysis to include maintaining accurate records and logs 

What we need you to bring to the team: 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
  • Hands-on experience with machining and custom manufacturing, including use of drill presses, band saws, welding equipment, grinders/sanders, laser cutters, and 3D printers
  • Knowledge of plumbing and fluid power systems, such as pipe fittings, pumps, valves, and heat exchangers
  • Experience developing mechanical, electrical, and/or chemical safety standard operating procedures
  • The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as needed
  • The ability to adapt quickly to changing processes and responsibilities
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • A critical thinking mindset and focus on finding answers 
  • A safety-first mindset; share potential risks with others before they result in hazardous outcomes  

What we want you to bring to the team:   

  • Experience with 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks 
  • Experience with electronics and/or instrumentation, including instrument selection and analog and digital signal processing
  • Programming experience including Python, R, JavaScript, C++, and/or relational databases (SQL)
  • Familiarity with safe practices in wet chemical laboratories and chemical processes.
  • Self-motivation and a can-do attitude 
  • Experience or the desire to be in a dynamic startup environment 
  • A desire to challenge yourself and take on increasing responsibilities as the company grows

Compensation:  

  • The anticipated starting pay range for this position is $60,000-$75,000 annually and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.
