As a Mechanical Engineer for the SPARC Toroidal Field (TF) magnets , you will perform thermal, structural, and electromagnetic analysis using hand calculations and finite element method. You will develop design notes, technical specifications, assembly procedures and documentation necessary to manufacture and install the SPARC components. In your role you will also support procurement in the preparation and execution of manufacturing contracts.
This work is conducted within a multi-disciplinary team of physicists and engineers as part of collaborative sponsored research projects at the MIT Plasma Science and Fusion Center and within CFS.

This team member will:
Perform thermal, structural, and electromagnetic analysis using ANSYSProduce design concepts using NXProduce dimensional drawings with appropriate tolerancing for manufacturing and vendor quotingProvide technical support during the manufacturing Develop assembly documentation Support the development of the tooling for assemblySupport the resolution of technical issues that arise during the manufacturing and installation Perform proof of principle and hand calculations as necessary to confirm the validity of the analysisPrepare reports and presentations as requestedThe ideal candidate will have most, if not all, of these requirements:
At least a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, or another relevant fieldProficiency in one or more CAD programs such as Solidworks, Solidedge, AutoCAD, etc.Familiarity with basic machining techniques, welding processes and current, general fabrication concepts.Some background performing structural FEA analysis.ANSYS (preferred)NX (preferred)Hands-on experience developing hardware (preferred)Exceptional attention to detailAn ability to clearly express and critique ideasAn emphasis on elegance and simplicity over complexityThe ability to thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environmentsA drive toward commercially viable solutionsValues that align with our company’s values of integrity, execution, impact, and self-critiqueAdditional experience and/or qualifications:
