Your role and your team:

You will report directly to the Engineering Manager for Aircraft Design Integration within the Mechanical Engineering Team. The Mechanical Engineering Team is responsible for designing and developing the structural components of our aircraft across the entire life cycle - from concept through detailed design, testing and serial production.

As a Mechanical Engineer responsible for propulsion system integration activities you will be part of an interdisciplinary IPT (Integrated Project Team) responsible for the development of our innovative distributed electric propulsion system, which features a wide range of disciplines including turbomachinery, composite and metallic structures, electric machines & electronics. Your support will play a key role in bringing the Lilium aircraft to life.

Your Day to Day:

  • Lead cross-teams work streams as delegated by the Deputy Chief Propulsion Engineer
  • Drive major technical decisions related to propulsion architecture as delegated by the Deputy Chief Propulsion Engineer
  • Write reports on technical choices / validation documentation
  • Take an active role in the requirements capture, analysis and validation activity
  • Organize requirements derivation, allocate budgets
  • Prepare system compliance matrix
  • Manage and drive interfaces within the team
  • Prepare technical meetings and support decision making
  • Author system description documents
  • Ensure execution of decided actions
  • Make first principle design assumptions and drive brainstorming sessions to generate and down-select design options
  • Organize and facilitate technical communication across different working groups
  • Prepare certification justification documents

Your Profile:

  • University degree in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical/Vehicle/Electronic Engineering (aerospace specialization, MSc/M.Eng preferred)
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in the aerospace industry in multi-disciplinary roles is required
  • Experience in leading teams and workstreams is required
  • Good knowledge of mechanical and thermal design is required
  • Experience with electric machines, turbomachinery and/or acoustics is beneficial
  • Proven experience with the certification of turbomachinery, composite structures, electric machines & electronics (HW/SW) is beneficial
  • Excellent understanding of certification specifications (EASA & FAA) is beneficial
  • Good understanding of CS-E and SC-VTOL is beneficial
  • Proven experience with defining test programs is beneficial
  • Experience with a complete certification program from concept development to type design approval is beneficial
  • Excellent communication skills and proficiency in facilitating meetings are required
  • Target-oriented, driven work style with analytic problem-solving skills is required
  • Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment is required
  • Fluent English language skills are essential, fluent German or any other language is beneficial
