Mission – Why we exist and why we need you

Geothermal energy is the massive renewable energy below our feet. There is 2,300 times more energy in geothermal heat in the ground than in oil, gas, coal, and methane combined. However, it’s been hard to find the right places to get that energy cheaply. At Zanskar, we’re using AI and technology-enabled exploration and development to make geothermal a vital contributor to a fully carbon-free electrical grid. We’re a VC-backed venture with world-class investors that include Lowercarbon and USV.

We need MBA interns to support the Chief of Staff, an ex-Bain consultant, to develop strategic insights and operational plans to guide Zanskar’s next stage of growth. You will interact with founders and leading scientists of a leading startup bringing firm renewable energy to market.

Outcomes - Problems you’ll solve

MBA interns will take on 1-3 projects over the course of 2-4 months with check-in reports to the Chief of Staff, CEO, and other key stakeholders. Sample projects include international expansion strategy for our exploration technology, pricing for potential products beyond electricity sales, and exploration ops improvement.

Competencies – What we’re looking for

Independent structured problem solver: The questions MBA interns will tackle are tough; we’ll iterate on the core question as we get more answers but we’ll need someone who does not need hand-holding to be able to figure out implications of the core problem and how to frame actionable answers.

Networked/resourced: We have a rich network of advisors but ideal interns will bring personal connections to energy market, transmission, renewable energy developers that they can utilize to gather information, perform research, and come up the learning curve in ways that Google Searches won’t be able to.

Gritty builder mindset: One of our values is “Blaze a trail, leave a legacy.” Our roots come from geologists out in the field drilling and gathering data others couldn’t or wouldn’t. While you may not go into the field with our geologists, MBA interns must guide decisions incorporating the “boots on the ground” reality of building a start-up paired with the vision of building something that outlasts them and doesn’t just gather dust in a corner.

Preferred backgrounds: Consulting, VC, PE with an emphasis on energy markets, renewable energy or previous renewable energy developer experience
