As an intern in the Materials Development team, you will focus on the exploration and characterization of advanced material properties, and perform systematic characterization to understand material properties and performance relationships of novel energy storage materials.

Responsibilities and Duties  

  • Lead a technical project from start to finish while incorporating guidance from your mentor, manager, and peers
  • Develop and execute novel analytical methods to characterize advanced material properties of anode materials
  • Complete technical tasks end-to-end and provide tactical support when needed to drive toward shared team success 
  • Learn the inner workings of the technical team
  • Engage and foster a collaborative work environment that enables innovation and learning 
  • Partner with members of your team to resolve project challenges and establish appropriate and timely solutions
  • Share project updates with critical team members at regular intervals

Knowledge and Skill Requirements 

  • Studying toward (or recently received) a bachelor's degree or higher in chemical engineering, materials science, chemistry, or related fields
  • Desire to learn and use varying tools and technologies
  • Data handling and organization to support independent work
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 
  • Excellent documentation abilities

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • This internship will take place daily onsite in Alameda for 10-12 weeks
  • Required to exercise good judgment and work safety at all times, including utilization of personal protective equipment and compliance with safety procedures
  • Candidates must be comfortable working in a manufacturing environment
  • Operate equipment and tools at a bench
  • Wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, a lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and safety shoes
  • Move long distances (such as from building to building) and be stationary for extended periods of time

Regular Shift: Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 6:00pm

Start date is June 10, 2024

The starting base pay for this role is between $25/hr and $35/hr at the time of posting. The actual base pay depends on many factors, such as education, experience, and skills. Base pay is only one part of Sila’s competitive Total Rewards package that can include benefits, perks, and equity.  The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for overtime.
