About the company:

BETA Technologies is creating an electric transportation ecosystem that’s safe, reliable and sustainable. A relentlessly focused team is building an extensive charging infrastructure and ALIA, the world’s most technologically advanced electric vertical aircraft (EVA).

BETA’s platform and products are strikingly simple. Prioritization of safety and a pragmatic approach to certification drive elegant redundancy, appropriate diversity of implementation and simplicity of control. ALIA’s fixed-pitch propellers and centrally located batteries make it an inherently stable aircraft that is safe to fly and easy to maneuver.

Beta Technologies is looking for an experienced Materials and Processes Engineer (M&P) to join the team developing ALIA, an all-electric, vertical takeoff, electric aircraft (eVTOL). The ideal candidate is someone who has, above all, excellent collaborative skills. The ability to guide and coach design teams, suppliers, and partners in the development of the aircraft is essential. This includes good communication skills and the ability to write clear design guides, material specifications, and process specifications.

The ability to think outside the box and strong mechanical intuition is important to troubleshoot design challenges and manufacturing issues. As an M&P Engineer, you will be required to seek out and qualify the right materials, define equipment requirements, develop and author repair procedures, disposition non-conforming parts, find and help onboard suppliers and develop processes. You will also work with quality to set up the receiving/inspection controls for materials and parts, and ensure processes are carried out properly and by qualified operators.

You will also be involved in R&D activities and consequently the writing of test plans and overseeing test execution. Testing will include material qualification, process development, component development, optimizing manufacturability, and anything else along the path of developing the aircraft.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Office work and hands-on work with manufacturing and R&D. Occasional travel to audit suppliers.

How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:

  • Guide and support the various design teams in the development of aircraft components.
  • Collaborate with suppliers for materials, components, equipment, etc…
  • Work with manufacturing teams to optimize the manufacturability of the aircraft, reduce cycle time and provide equipment requirements.
  • Work with quality to implement controls for materials, processes, operator training, and supplier audits.
  • Write and review engineering documents/drawings, material specifications, and process specifications
  • Coordinate and carry out material and process qualifications
  • Develop and write repair procedures
  • Disposition of non-conforming parts and materials
  • Write test plans and execute testing.
  • Participate in design reviews.
  • Support first article inspections.
  • Troubleshoot engineering and manufacturing issues.

  • Minimum Qualifications we are seeking

  • All around good person and fun to work with.
  • At least a Bachelor’s degree focused in either Mechanical, Chemical, Metallurgy, Materials, or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years aerospace experience. Ideally 10+ years in aerospace.
  • Strong knowledge of industry specifications for materials, processes, testing, and quality.
  • Experience writing specifications, generating test plans, overseeing and executing testing, and writing test reports.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and an outside-the-box thinker.
  • Enjoys coaching and teaching and has solid collaborative skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with both internal & external customers
  • High energy, self-motived, organized, and detail-oriented.
  • Proficient at learning new tools and new software.
  • A passion for all that is aerospace.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems is an asset.
  • Experience in product development and supporting certification is an asset.
