About the role
We are currently seeking a talented Manager of State and Local Taxes (SALT). You could either utilize our Corporate HQ in Westlake Village, CA or work remotely with occasional travel (<10%). You will work with our Finance, Procurement, Project Management, and Sales Departments for ensuring accurate and timely preparation of SALT returns. Additionally, you will provide tax research, calculation, and analysis in support of company’s business initiatives and tax positions.

What you will do

  • Prepares and reviews monthly and quarterly SALT filings and estimates payments for sales and use tax, property tax, and indirect tax.
  • Maintain tax calendar to ensure timely compliance of all tax filings and estimated payments.
  • Prepare estimated tax payments and extensions.
  • Review and maintain tax exemption certificates.
  • Prepare tax calculations to support business case analysis.
  • Prepare tax account GL reconciliation and support for journal entries.
  • Perform tax research and prepare memo to support tax position for compliance and audits.
  • Research inquiries from government agencies regarding filings, compliance, and other claims.
  • Respond to SALT notices, inquiries, and questions from customers, vendors, and internal stakeholders in procurement and project management.
  • Research products and services to enhance internal controls and efficiency for SALT reporting and SOX404 compliance.

  • What a qualified candidate should possess

  • BS in accounting or finance preferred.
  • 5+ years of SALT relevant work experience.
  • Prior involvement in SALT planning and nexus issues involving California, Nevada, and/or Texas.
  • Big 4 SALT practice experience a plus.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Experience in energy, utilities, and/or construction industries a plus.
  • NetSuite experience a plus.
  • Business writing skills are essential.
  • Excel proficiency, strong analytical and technical accounting skills, and ability to work independently to solve problems and manage multiple projects.
  • Experience in public companies is a plus.
  • Comfort in fast-paced, rapid growth environments.
