About the company:

Redwood Materials is an American clean energy company headquartered in Sparks, Nevada, focused on securing domestic supplies of critical battery materials and providing large-scale energy storage solutions. The company recycles end-of-life batteries to recover lithium, nickel, cobalt, and copper, creating one of the largest domestic sources of these critical minerals in the United States. Its operations support the broader transition away from reliance on foreign supply chains for materials essential to electric vehicles and energy storage systems. Through its Redwood Energy division, the company designs, integrates, and deploys large-scale energy storage systems for data centers and the national grid, utilizing both new and repurposed batteries to deliver cost-effective solutions. Redwood Materials partners with major automotive, technology, and energy companies including Volkswagen Group of America, Panasonic, GM Ultium Cells, Toyota, BMW, Amazon, Volvo, and Southern Company, reflecting its central role in the emerging domestic battery supply chain. Founded by former Tesla Chief Technology Officer JB Straubel, Redwood Materials was established with the mission of building a circular economy for batteries, reducing waste, lowering the carbon footprint of energy storage, and strengthening American energy independence. The company holds ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 certifications, underscoring its commitment to occupational health, safety, and environmental management standards.

About Redwood Materials

Redwood is localizing a global battery supply chain that seamlessly integrates recovery, reuse, and recycling — keeping critical minerals in circulation and driving the energy transition. Founded in 2017, we’re delivering low-cost and large-scale energy storage and producing battery materials in the U.S. for the first time, all from batteries we already have.

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for leading the inventory and cost accounting function, ensuring accurate valuation of raw materials, work in process, and finished goods across recycling and energy operations. The role owns costing, inventory reserves, and variance analysis, and partners with Operations, and FP&A to explain cost drivers and margin performance. This position oversees month-end close activities for inventory and cost of goods sold, maintains the related internal controls, and supports external audit requests. Success in this role requires strong cost accounting knowledge, analytical judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. This role is primarily performed in an office environment.

Responsibilities

  • Own the month-end and quarter-end close for inventory and cost of goods sold, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and flux analysis
  • Drive process and systems improvement — own inventory transaction discipline (receipts, consumption, scrap, adjustments), and report performance to business leadership.
  • Oversee inventory valuation, and excess, obsolete, and lower-of-cost-or-market reserve analyses
  • Oversee inventory accounting for battery energy storage systems (BESS), including component and module costing, and valuation of completed systems held for sale or deployment
  • Partner with Operations, and FP&A to develop cost models and support product margin, and production analyses
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls over inventory and costing processes and support external audit requests
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of cost accountants and analysts, and drive process and ERP system improvements within the function

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA preferred
  • 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, including inventory and cost accounting in a manufacturing environment, with prior experience leading or supervising others
  • Working knowledge of US GAAP as applied to inventory valuation, standard costing, and variance analysis
  • Experience with ERP and costing systems (e.g., D365, Oracle) and advanced Excel skills, including work with large data sets
  • Ability to analyze information, interpret data, and support decision-making and problem-solving
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain financial results to non-financial stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, shifting priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment

The position is full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
