We are Sila—a next generation battery materials company dedicated to accelerating energy transformation for a more sustainable future.
Our next-gen anode material is the first significant chemistry improvement to lithium-ion batteries to reach the market in 30 years. Our silicon anode material is a simple drop-in replacement to graphite and significantly boosts the energy density of lithium-ion batteries without compromising performance.
Today, Sila science powers innovative consumer electronics. Tomorrow, it will fuel our EV future and the electrification of everything.
We work directly with leading consumer electronics and automotive OEMs to help accelerate product roadmaps, and partners with battery manufacturers commercial cell production. Our partners include BMW, Daimler, and ATL.
Sila Nano works directly with leading consumer electronics and automotive OEMs to help accelerate product roadmaps, and partners with battery manufacturers commercial cell production.
Sila Nano’s first products significantly increase the energy density of state-of-the-art lithium-ion batteries. Our materials are manufacturable economically at scale and are drop-in replacements to existing battery manufacturing processes.
About Us
We are Sila, a next-generation battery materials company. Our mission is to power the world’s transition to clean energy. To create this future, our team is building a better lithium-ion battery from the inside out today. We engineer and manufacture ground-breaking battery materials that significantly increase the energy density of batteries, while reducing their size and weight. The result? Smaller more powerful batteries that can unlock innovation in consumer devices and accelerate the mass adoption of electric cars to eliminate our dependence on fossil fuels. We're tackling one of the biggest challenges of our time every day, and together we're redefining what's possible. Are you ready to be a part of a team committed to changing the world?
Who You Are
As the Lead Structural Engineer for the Capital Projects team, you will design and detail major buildings and reactor structures for mass production facilities. You are a capable structural engineering leader with a background in large-scale greenfield buildings and facilities, a high tolerance for ambiguity, and creative problem-solving skills. You enjoy diving deep into the details and challenging the need for every ton of steel and every yard of concrete in your designs.
Responsibilities and Duties
- While working with Sila cross-functional engineering teams, develop the basis of design for major structures, foundations, slabs, etc. and lead engineering and detailed design either internally or with third-party engineering firms.
- Generate structural and 3D building/structure models, engineering drawings, and construction permit documents.
- Review design deliverables from internal engineers and designers and/or third-party engineering firms.
- Provide planning-level estimates and provide input to planning-level construction schedules based on limited information and/or on multiple concepts for design basis reviews and program planning.
- Lead structural discipline design reviews in cross-functional design reviews, constructability reviews, etc.
- Review and approve / respond to submittals and RFI’s.
- Develop engineering drawings and details for field modifications of structures as needed to support construction or equipment expansions.
- Establish and maintain Sila global structural specifications, standards, and typical details.
- Travel to Moses Lake, Washington to support field construction on an as-needed basis and only where in-person structural engineering guidance is required.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- Minimum 7 years’ experience as a Structural Engineer with at least 3 years’ experience as Engineer of Record on large capital projects with complex buildings and structures, piping, and rotating equipment scopes (e.g. factories, refineries, power plants, etc.). Experience with an owner-operator strongly preferred.
- Expert level understanding of Washington building code and structural design standards including lateral (seismic/wind) design, snow loads, and related code requirements.
- Expert in structural design with various materials such as steel, concrete, timber, masonry, Unistrut, cold-form steel and in structural steel welding and reinforcement details of concrete.
- Expert in design considering constructability and construction sequence for fabrication/installation.
- P.E. S.E. licensure in the State of Washington required, or the ability to obtain comity licensure within the first 6 months.
- Ability to model structures and foundations in Revit Structural and Tekla Structures or equivalent structural modeling software.
- Self-driven, “can-do” attitude fitting a nimble early-stage startup scaling into global-scale mass production.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Wear personal protective equipment while in construction zones including, but not limited to, a hard hat, safety glasses, and safety shoes
- Walk moderate distances and/or be stationary for extended periods of time
- Climb stairs or over containment walls < 3 feet
- Use ladders and wear fall protection to inspect production equipment and structures as necessary
- Operate a computer and other office equipment
Regular Shift: Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 6:00pm
