About the company:

Vertical is a British aerospace tech company that's pioneering electric aviation through designing and building the UK's first all-electric, vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVTOL). A quieter, faster, more sustainable way to travel between urban destinations.

Make your mark on the future of flight as a 2026 Vertical Aerospace Graduate hire

At Vertical Aerospace, we are redefining flight for a cleaner, quieter and more connected world.

We are developing the VX4, the UK’s first fully electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. With zero operating emissions and advanced design, the VX4 will transform how people travel - faster, greener and safer.

Founded in 2016, Vertical is now one of the world’s leading eVTOL developers, with a pre-order book including Japan Airlines, American Airlines, and strong industrial partners such as Honeywell and Aciturri.

The Opportunity

As a Graduate Engineer within our Electric Propulsion Unit (EPU) team, you’ll be part of the team responsible for developing the technologies that power the VX4 into the sky. from high-performance electric machines to efficient, lightweight power delivery systems.

You’ll work at the intersection of mechanical, electrical and thermal engineering, helping to design and refine the systems that convert stored energy into thrust. Whether you’re analysing new eMachine topologies, optimising thermal performance or supporting test activities, your work will directly influence the performance and efficiency of our aircraft.

This is more than a first job; it’s an opportunity to join a team of engineers shaping the next era of sustainable aviation. You’ll be surrounded by mentors, immersed in real projects from day one, and challenged to think boldly as we transform electric propulsion from concept to certified reality.

What You’ll Do

From day one, you’ll have meaningful responsibility. You will:

  • Support analysis of electric machine topologies, exploring design opportunities and performance trade-offs.

· Contribute to full eMachine design activities with a focus on reducing system mass within the EPU.

  • Collaborate with mechanical, thermal and systems teams to ensure seamless design integration.

  • Assist in studying and improving the thermal and electromagnetic performance of eMachines.

  • Document findings, design decisions and test results to support certification and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for graduates who are curious, creative and ready to learn fast. You should have:

  • A degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering (or a related discipline).

  • Understanding of electric machine fundamentals and basic thermal or electromagnetic analysis.

  • Familiarity with tools such as MATLAB, Simulink or other modelling and simulation environments.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and collaboration skills.

  • A proactive mindset, with the ability to manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.

If you don’t meet every requirement, that’s okay - we value potential and a willingness to grow.

Why join Vertical?

You’ll join a supportive, inclusive team working on one of the most exciting challenges in aerospace today. Expect mentoring from experienced engineers, real responsibility and the chance to make an impact from day one.

Every day at Vertical is an opportunity to learn, collaborate and shape the future of sustainable flight.
