The IT Software Asset Manager is responsible for the governance, optimization, and compliance of all enterprise software assets and SaaS subscriptions across the organization. This role oversees end-to-end software lifecycle management — from procurement through renewal or retirement — ensuring cost efficiency, license compliance, and alignment with business objectives. The manager will collaborate closely with IT, Finance, Procurement, Legal, and business stakeholders to maintain a transparent and well-governed software portfolio that supports operational excellence and scalability..

What You’ll Do

  • Software Lifecycle Management
    • Maintain a centralized inventory of all software assets, licenses, and SaaS subscriptions.
    • Oversee procurement, deployment, renewal, and retirement processes to ensure accurate entitlement and usage tracking.
    • Partner with Finance and Procurement to align software spending with budget forecasts and business priorities.

  • Governance, Risk & Compliance
    • Ensure adherence to software license agreements, vendor terms, and regulatory requirements.
    • Lead internal audits and coordinate with external auditors during software license reviews.
    • Identify and mitigate compliance risks, ensuring the company avoids fines or unbudgeted true-ups.

  • Cost Optimization & Vendor Management
    • Analyze software utilization data to identify underused or redundant licenses and drive cost-saving initiatives.
    • Develop and implement strategies for license pooling, reallocation, and optimization.
    • Negotiate contracts and renewals to secure optimal pricing and service terms.
    • Support vendor relationship management and maintain renewal calendars and documentation.

  • Operational Excellence

    • Develop and enforce ITAM/SAM standards and processes based on industry frameworks (ITIL, ISO/IEC 19770).
    • Establish and enforce processes for software request, approval, acquisition, and deployment.
    • Promote SAM best practices across the organization through training and awareness initiatives.
  • Tools and Reporting
    • Manage and optimize SAM/ITSM tools  (e.g., ServiceNow, Flexera, Snow, or Ivanti).
    • Generate regular reports and dashboards to track compliance, usage, spend, and performance metrics.
    • Provide executive summaries and actionable insights to IT and finance leadership.

What you need:

  • Education & Experience
    • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, or related field.
    • 5–7 years of experience in Software Asset Management (SAM), IT Asset Management (ITAM), or SaaS vendor/subscription management.
    • Hands-on experience managing enterprise applications (e.g., SAP, Workday, Atlassian, Google Workspace, Slack, ADP, MathWorks, etc.).

  • Skills
    • Strong understanding of software licensing models (SaaS, subscription, perpetual, concurrent, enterprise agreements).
    • Proficiency with ITAM/SAM tools (ServiceNow, Flexera, Snow, or similar).
    • Advanced Excel/financial analysis skills and familiarity with software usage analytics.
    • Excellent negotiation and vendor-management capabilities.
    • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
    • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment.
  • Preferred
    • ITIL, CSAM, or CHAMP certification.
    • Experience supporting compliance in regulated environments (e.g., SOX, GDPR, HIPAA).
