As part of the wider Octopus Energy group, Octopus Energy Generation (“OEGEN”) sources, invests in and actively manages a range of utility scale renewable energy assets. Since entering the renewables market in 2010, Octopus Energy Generation has grown to become one of the largest renewable investors in Europe. We are looking to expand our c.100 professionals team as we continue to scale our investments base of c£5bn and 3GW+ of renewable projects (mostly operational or in construction).

This role will sit within the OEGEN Corporate & Industrial Team focusing on building out and investing in our expanding our C&I platform, that offers on-site generation and flexibility solutions to large energy users in EU and UK. The role will be based in Germany long term, but there will be opportunity to work in the London office for the first 6 months.

We have created a network of partnerships in multiple countries, with varying capabilities and at different stages of maturities. We get inspired by entrepreneurial management teams with whom we want to work long term and accelerate our mutual ambitions not only through funding, but also by accelerating growth through strategic alignment and bringing synergies with a wider Octopus business.

Our funds have mandates to invest into multiple renewable technologies, and our current portfolio includes developers of utility-scale solar, rooftop solar, onshore wind, floating offshore wind and storage.

What you'll do

  • Lead new platform transaction execution including securing exclusivity, finding the best deal structure, presenting to ICs and funders, due diligence, modelling etc. alongside other team members.
  • Negotiate joint venture and partnership terms, corporate governance.
  • Support the integration and management of partnerships across Europe and screening of potential further expansions. Understanding the technology and value proposition, diving into local and broader market fundamentals, thinking through possible equity term sheets and commercial solutions, etc.
  • Be responsible for the commercial appraisal of new projects for each of the portfolio companies: 
  • Support the management of the portfolio companies together with the platform team, potentially as a board member or an observer, and support the growth of each platform through strategic advice.
  • Support the integration and management of partnerships across Europe and screening of potential further expansions. Understanding the technology and value proposition, diving into local and broader market fundamentals, thinking through possible equity term sheets and commercial solutions, etc.
  • Work across multiple technologies and geographies.
  • What you'll need

  • Track record in originating, securing exclusivities and valuing deals.
  • Experience in negotiating corporate governance structures, dilutions, shareholder agreements, joint ventures, framework agreements.
  • Commercial mindset, and experience owning investment decision making.
  • English and German fluency
  • Be a pro-active and self-starting senior team member who has a strong sense of ownership, “can do” attitude, strong team spirit and ability to grow team members.
  • Understanding of financial valuation theories coupled with core accounting and tax structuring skills. 
  • Experience in renewable energy and/or platform investing
  • Project management and organisational skills. Evidence of managing complex workloads in a fast-paced environment and being able to execute transactions as a principal.
