About Rondo Energy

Rondo Energy's mission is to eliminate 15% of global CO2 emissions in 15 years.

To accomplish this mission, Rondo is deploying low-cost, zero-carbon Rondo Heat Batteries to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy and to significantly decarbonize industrial processes that are commonly thought of as "difficult-to-decarbonize". Our Heat Batteries charge from intermittent renewables to provide high temperature, continuous heat for customers safely, reliably, at an unprecedented 98% efficiency - and at a cost point that is lower than any other method.

We are looking for an experienced, innovative Industrial Equipment Engineer/Mechatronics Engineer to join our team and repower industrial heat at scale. This role will require fluency in many different Mechanical and Control Design Competencies, including structural systems, moving machinery (hydraulic, linear actuators, motors), control systems, part/machinery interfaces, among others. Furthermore, this role will require familiarity and comfort in working in a fast-paced environment, comfort in working with uncertainty, assessing risk, and developing multi-disciplinary solutions in a collaborative team setting.

Join our team and together we can reduce world CO₂ emissions by 1% in 10 years, and by 15% in 15 years!

What You Will Do (key responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to):

  • Lead an iterative process of design and experimentation, developing internal knowledge on the development of complex, interdisciplinary machinery systems. Use this knowledge to develop heavy machinery and equipment components in collaboration between internal and external design resources
  • Develop procedures for the implementation, use, and maintenance of machinery and tooling used to manufacture, transport, install, and service core technology componentry
  • Coordinate the design and integration of complex systems between the internal organization and external engineering vendors
  • Convert product requirements into technical specifications, developing conceptual and detailed designs along with the necessary risk assessments
  • Perform engineering design, analysis, prototyping and/or testing required to achieve robust and cost-effective solutions for our core technology, as well as on tooling and other equipment to support manufacturing
  • Operate in an inclusive, collaborative, and iterative design team, contributing to fostering an open engineering culture

What You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or equivalent industry experience
  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience in Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering
  • Experience in the development of machinery with knowledge in several of the following areas: Structural systems, moving machinery (hydraulics, linear actuators, motors), controls systems, vacuum systems, part/machinery interfaces, system integration, and industrial/construction machinery design
  • Experience developing risk analysis, operational requirements, standard-use definition, operating procedures, and documentation to support the full operational lifecycle of tooling/equipment
  • Expert Knowledge of Solid works and a familiarity with the full suite of AutoCAD tools (or a willingness to quickly learn)
  • Flexibility, openness, and creative problem-solving
  • Comfort working with fast-based environments, with uncertainty, and in collaborative team settings

What We Offer:

  • Comprehensive Medical Benefits
  • Dental & Vision Benefits
  • Life Insurance and ADD
  • Up to 13 paid holidays per year, in addition to a company week-long holiday in December
  • Flexible time off policy
  • 401(k) plan with company match
  • Rondo HQ is close to Oakland airport - one block from the Bay - and has stunning Bay views!

Bonus Points!

  • Experience in the development of heavy machinery and/or construction machinery
  • Familiarity with construction site operations and heavy system loading/unloading operations

This nature of this role necessitates being majority on-site at our Houston office, with frequent travel to our Alameda, CA headquarters. Please note that some pay bands may have wide ranges of compensation to accommodate candidates' diverse sets of skill levels and experience.
