We're on a mission to make a big green dent in the universe by building a truly sustainable energy system globally.

That means making power greener, smarter, and more affordable for everyone.

We put customers at the heart of everything we do: with always-fair prices, transparency and outrageous customer service.

We drive system change: with transformative tech to make renewable energy the norm and end global reliance on fossil fuels.

Octopus Energy Group is made up of 10 businesses spanning 6 countries across 3 continents, including: Octopus Energy Retail, Kraken Technologies, Octopus Energy Generation, Kraken Flex, Octopus Electric Vehicles, and the Octopus Centre for Net Zero. More on OEG @ octopusenergy.group

At Octopus Energy Generation (OEGEN), we're passionate about powering a sustainable future. As pioneers in the renewable energy space, we don’t just invest in utility-scale projects; we invest in people, communities, and a greener tomorrow.

Since stepping into the renewables arena in 2010, we've made waves - becoming a top investor in onshore wind across mainland Europe and the largest backer of solar power in Europe. Today, we proudly manage over £7bn in renewable energy assets worldwide.

Our portfolio includes over three hundred major energy-generating companies, from wind farms to solar power plants, with exciting new ventures in energy storage, e-fuels and beyond. As we continue to grow, we're looking for passionate individuals to join our diverse and dedicated team, helping us drive the future of renewable energy forward.

As part of our Centre of Excellence, which provides specialist contract, construction, technical, safety and operational expertise across funds and technologies, we are looking for a Health & Safety Manager.

The Health & Safety Manager is the lead for health and safety across OEGEN’s portfolio, embedding proactive risk management, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and strengthening a culture of safety excellence. This role does not carry sole operational responsibility for contractor safety or site-level delivery (this is to be achieved through third party safety advisory companies) but instead ensures that effective systems, oversight, competent parties and governance are in place.

Whilst we maintain a degree of flexibility, this position requires an average of 3 days in the office per week in London.

Our process usually takes up to 4 weeks, but we’ll always do our best to flex around what works for you. Along the way, you’ll chat with our recruitment team and your Recruiter will help you throughout different stages. Got any burning questions before then? Drop us a message at [email protected] and we’d love to help!

If this sounds like you then we'd love to hear from you. 🚀

Are you ready for a career with us? We want to ensure you have all the tools and environment you need to unleash your potential. Need any specific accommodations? Whether you require specific accommodations or have a unique preference, let us know, and we'll do what we can to customise your interview process for comfort and maximum magic!

Studies have shown that some groups of people, like women, are less likely to apply to a role unless they meet 100% of the job requirements. Whoever you are, if you like one of our jobs, we encourage you to apply as you might just be the candidate we hire. Across Octopus, we're looking for genuinely decent people who are honest and empathetic. Our people are our strongest asset and the unique skills and perspectives people bring to the team are the driving force of our success. As an equal opportunity employer, we do not discriminate on the basis of any protected attribute. Our commitment is to provide equal opportunities, an inclusive work environment, and fairness for everyone.

What you'll do

  • Oversee and manage the performance of external H&S advisory providers.

  • Conduct reviews and gap analyses against regulatory requirements, advising on best practices.
  • Maintain oversight of supplier competence frameworks (e.g., Achilles) and contractor approvals.
  • Oversee identification, assessment, and monitoring of key safety risks across the portfolio.
  • Ensure OEGEN directors and teams are appropriately trained to fulfil their H&S duties.
  • Embed H&S risk management within investment and operational decision-making.
  • Consolidate H&S KPIs and incident data provided by external advisors, preparing clear board-level reporting with trend analysis.
  • Act as the senior escalation point for major H&S incidents, providing confident leadership during crises.
  • Coordinate advisory input and ensure alignment to OEGEN’s incident management.
  • Support lessons learned processes to drive continuous improvement.
  • What you'll need

  • Strong background in renewable energy or complex infrastructure sectors.
  • In-depth understanding of UK CDM regulations, with experience managing safety from a client’s perspective.
