Flight Control Laws – Senior Handling Qualities Engineer

In this position you will become part of our talented Flight Control Laws team with direct report to our Lead Handling Qualities Engineer. This role is focused on the Handling Qualities aspects in Subpart B of the applicable certification specifications.

As a Handling Qualities engineer, you will contribute the definition of aircraft requirements, the development of the Handling Qualities certification plan, and the planning of the flight test campaign. You will be involved in the complete lifecycle of handling qualities requirements: from preliminary trade-off studies to the final evaluation of compliance on the real aircraft. Your day-to-day activities will require frequent interaction with other transversal disciplines such as Flight Physics, Modeling and Simulation, Flight Test, and Airworthiness teams.

Your Day to Day:

  • Defining handling qualities requirements for aircraft sizing and flight control laws design
  • Performing trade-off studies to support Chief Engineering and Business Department
  • Defining handling qualities verification criteria (Mission Task Elements)
  • Developing means of compliance for flight envelopes and flight characteristics (SC VTOL Subpart B certification)
  • Preparing Simulator and Flight Test Requests, in liaison with our Flight Test team
  • Evaluating handling qualities in the simulator (pilot-in-the-loop)
  • Supporting Flight Tests and analyzing test results
  • Collating evidence for certification and presenting it to the Authorities

Your profile:

  • M. Sc. in aeronautical engineering or similar degree
  • At least 5 years professional experience in Flight Dynamics and Handling Qualities
  • Proven experience in helicopter subpart B certification (EASA CS 27, CS 29)
  • Experience in Flight Testing would also be beneficial
  • Good knowledge of Control Theory
  • Good skills in Matlab/Simulink
  • High level of self-reliance and an autonomous target-oriented work style is a must
  • Target-oriented, driven workstyle with analytic problem-solving skills required
  • Fluent English language skills are essential, Fluent German or any other language would be beneficial
  • Private Pilot or Glider Pilot training is a plus
