Engage in the selection, planning, construction, installation, commissioning and start-up of equipment, machinery and facilities to produce a novel food product using both traditional and non-traditional fermentation technology. Possess primary responsibility for process engineering for all upstream unit operations, including development, optimization and troubleshooting. Prepare and/or markup PFDs, P&IDs, ISOs, and 1-Line diagrams. Create equipment specifications and work with vendors/solution providers. Work directly with the Research and Development and food applications teams to incorporate new developments into the process, including new process and products. Responsible for performing experiments and calculations to develop technology that supports scale-up of company's processes, operating equipment in the existing facility, and working with-third-party vendors and partners in testing, selection, and installation of equipment. Develops technology and/or equipment to scale existing processes to commercial size. Participate in technology transfer to subsequent stages of commercial manufacturing. Be involved with defining the scope and execution of small capital projects associated with the above activities. Tailor solutions to what is needed to develop long-term manufacturing strategies and cost projections. Propose, specify, and build modifications to pilot scale equipment. Work in a cross functional team in the development of new processes. Develop and implement standard operating procedures for new processes/equipment. Prepare and present project proposals, including budgets, resource usage, and schedules.
