About the company:

Revolutionising urban air mobility and electrifying air travel

Our Mission

At Vertical Aerospace, we are pioneering the way for electric aviation. The VX4, our eVTOL (electric, vertical, take-off and landing), 'zero emissions' aircraft will set a new safety standard for how we will navigate the sky.

We won't realise our mission following the same legacy processes and traditions our predecessors followed, instead, we want to 'redefine' aerospace best practices.

We are growing quickly from a prototype business to a scaling SME, and the next few years will be critical to our success and delivering on our ambitious goals of having the VX4 in service by 2030.

What to expect

As an EWIS Lead, you will join the Vehicle Physical Design department whose primary objective is to own the physical design of the aircraft. You will lead a dedicated team responsible for the design and delivery of all aircraft wiring harnesses, ensuring proper integration of EWIS at all stages of design and build.

A typical day could range from planning and resource management for your team, liaising with design and manufacturing partners, to working with the Principal Engineer to steer technical deliverables including electrical wiring architectures and aircraft wiring integration.

The ability to balance technical expertise with leadership skills, manage stakeholders effectively, and drive your team toward excellence will all factor into this role's impact and your success.

What you'll do

  • You will enable the design and delivery of all aircraft wiring harnesses for our fully electric VX4 aircraft.

  • You will develop short and long-term planning to meet business needs and build team capability.

  • You will manage resources and budgets effectively to deliver team objectives.

  • You will liaise with our design and/or manufacturing partners to ensure seamless collaboration.

  • You will work with wider engineering teams as the primary representative of the EWIS team, ensuring proper integration at all stages.

  • You will work with the Principal Engineer to steer and verify technical deliverables, including electrical wiring architectures, component and technology trade studies, aircraft wiring integration, design data release for manufacture, and component/system testing and verification.

  • You will support the development of your team members, helping them achieve their individual potential and build a world-class EWIS capability.

What you'll bring

  • Technical experience with EWIS Design before moving into a leadership position.

  • Experience working in a Part 21J Design Organisation (desirable).

  • Experience leading small/medium size teams.

  • Proactive, energetic, and very organized approach to work.

  • Ability to manage suppliers and other company stakeholders effectively.

  • Aerospace experience (desirable but not essential).

  • Deep knowledge of electrical wiring integration systems.

  • Strong leadership and people development skills.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities.

What can you expect from us?

We're on a mission. Where others see limits, we see opportunity, and we work at pace. Working at Vertical isn't your average role but for those seeking a challenge, a flexible, supportive organisation and an incredible team; working here is an opportunity to do the best work of your career.

Our approach promotes ingenuity and courage, while our environment builds success through diligence in safety and being open in the way we work. The only way we're going to assure the next chapter of aviation history is by working as a team, relentlessly, towards our goal.

Our benefits

Our people matter - we're not going anywhere without them. Which is why our company benefits go beyond the essentials.

  • 26 days holiday, plus bank holiday

  • 5 extra days per year to buy (or sell)

  • 5 extra days holiday when you get married or enter a civil partnership
