About the company:

Over millions of years, silicate rock weathering has regulated Earth’s climate. By crushing silicate rocks and spreading them on agricultural soils - an approach called Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) - we can accelerate Earth’s natural process into a solution capable of addressing the urgency of climate change.

Existing agricultural and silicate rock sites - namely 5,000+ global silicate rock quarries surrounded by agricultural land - have the potential to remove billions of tonnes of CO2 with enhanced rock weathering. Despite this potential, ERW hasn’t scaled given the extraordinary scientific, technological, and operational challenges involved. Terradot, founded out of the Stanford ecosystem, is addressing these challenges by advancing the science, building the technology, and assembling the coalition needed to make this potential a reality.

We’ve started in Brazil – one of the world’s most optimal locations for ERW thanks to its tropical soils, strength in agriculture, and clean electricity grid. There, we are building the most ambitious ERW hub to date. This hub will drive the necessary breakthroughs in ERW science, ensuring every tonne of carbon dioxide removed is measured and tracked with certainty.

These insights will power digital tools for the optimization and verification of carbon removal projects, enabling the replicability of these hubs globally If successful, this approach will uniquely and rapidly catalyze global-scale carbon removal, enabling the transformation of [300] such quarries in Brazil and [5,000+] global quarries into carbon removal hubs.

Terradot has assembled a growing team of leading scientists and engineers with decades of published research (over 100,000 citations on ERW) and hands-on expertise in related fields, providing unmatched experience to drive advancements in ERW.

To care for and expand its supply of rock powder, Terradot is looking for a geologist to expand its network of mining partners and integrate feedstock evaluation and sampling into the rest of the company's operations and logistics. The candidate will work under the Science Partnerships Lead to develop relationships with current and new mine partners, conduct and evaluate the results of the necessary analyses for vetting new feedstocks, and verify the consistency in their chemical and physical characteristics.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Visit mines in Brazil to assess their potential to be an ERW feedstock supplier for Terradot

  • Do end-to-end mineralogical and phisico-chemical assessments of feedstock materials (at the mine, in thin sections, and XRD evaluations)

  • Responsible for managing the sampling and vetting of feedstock for pilots and commercial projects

  • Connect with labs responsible for feedstock analyses to manage information and payment flows and do QA/QC on results

Background and Requirements:

  • Bachelors in Geology, Geosciences, or Mine Engineering (MSc or PhD preferable but optional)

  • Strong mineralogy and rock paragenesis knowledge

  • Previous experience with the interpretation of mineralogical and geochemical analytical results (especially quantitative mineralogical assessments via XRD + Rietveld and thin section descriptions)

  • Familiar with geospatial data analytical tools (i.e., QGIS)

  • Some knowledge of data analysis and management with Python

  • Driver's license B

  • Fluent in Portuguese and English

Personal Attributes:

  • Be proactive and identify solutions for team needs as they appear

  • Emotionally intelligent and able to “read the room”

  • Highly collaborative with a hands-on approach to problem-solving.

  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  • A positive, action-oriented mindset with a focus on outcomes.

What does success look like in this role?

  • You can travel to visit mines to evaluate exploration fronts, do petrographic descriptions and interpret XRD analyses

  • You visit the mine to evaluate the rock being explored, sample the rock powder and stock, and write concise reports about your visit

  • You keep up with the laboratories to perform QA/QC in the analytical results of rock powder samples

  • You smoothly communicate with colleagues from the science and logistics teams to efficiently provide geological context to projects

About Us:
