Who You Are

Self-sufficient, hands-on Equipment Engineering Technician Supervisor with equipment fabrication skills and experience coaching and managing a team.

Apply engineering, scientific, and other technical concepts and practices to help improve equipment performance; with an emphasis on fabrication, assembly, installation, and manufacturing operations.

Help further Sila’s Mission to Develop equipment and subsystems for scaling up first-of-their-kind chemical reactions

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide leadership and technical guidance to engineering technician team.
  • Participate in personnel related functions and responsibilities including: hiring, training, performance management and reviews, mentorship, and employee development.
  • Ensure adherence to Sila quality, technical, environmental and safety standards.
  • Provide technical guidance to scientific and engineering staff on design, materials, manufacturing techniques, assembly, installation and testing.
  • Using performance data, improve the reliability of current systems.
  • Build or supervise the construction and installation of chemical processing units and related equipment, using both in-house design-build teams and outside vendors.
  • Develop and perform robust unit tests on systems you’ve updated or created.
  • Engage with external parties (fabricators, equipment OEMs, consultants, contractors) and manage complex technical procurements.
  • Coordinate training for staff on equipment and procedures; ensure technical continuity and safety training for staff.
  • Collaborate on engineering projects across Sila Nanotechnologies technology development Projects.
  • Participate (or assign staff) in Design-for-Maintainability and other engineering reviews prior to design lock; ensure quality during in-house or third-party fabrication, construction, and factory acceptance testing; supervise installation and validate equipment operational readiness; develop SOP’s for operations and maintenance teams.
  • Make recommendations for improvements to procedures, priorities of team tasks, and team staffing to meet Sila’s growth plans.
  • Provide reporting on project status to stakeholders and leadership teams.
  • Conduct audits to insure quality workmanship for new equipment fabrication.
  • Develop detailed maintenance checklists, procedures and provide technical data for novel equipment prior to issuance to production.
  • Continually improve preventative and corrective maintenance strategies, policies and procedures.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • A.S degree, in related field and/. or 7+ years of directly related industry experience
  • Experience performing and supervising the building and deployment of complex capital equipment involving technical risk and high uptime requirements.
  • Ability to work carefully with delicate parts and large tools
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, vacuum equipment, process piping, and process gas supply systems typical in the chemical process or related industries
  • Knowledge of testing tools (e.g., DMV, helium leak detector and hydro tester)
  • Curious and deliberate approach to problem-solving
  • Consistent and clear communication across multiple teams/shifts
  • Basic electronics and wiring practices knowledge (analog signals, AC and DC power fundamentals, control wiring, and diagnostic tools).
  • Experience with field-deployed electronics, sensors, and actuators.
  • Knowledgeable on safety requirements for handling and storage of flammable and toxic gasses, confined entry, hazardous energy isolation, and electrical safety.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Pass a respirator fit test and be able to wear respiratory protection on a daily basis
  • Wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, a lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel toe safety shoes
  • Move items up to 50 lbs with the assistance of lift equipment and carts
  • Move long distances (such as from building to building) and be stationary for extended periods of time
  • Reach low shelves or items on the floor
  • Enter spaces narrower than 3 feet
  • Climb stairs or over containment walls
  • Precise and repetitive handling of a range of material quantities
  • Operate a computer and other office equipment, such as a laptop, copier/printer, etc in a fixed location
