Working arrangements

Please note, due to the nature of work, 100% onsite working is required however we will consider more hybrid working once a settling in period is complete and as the situation allows. You should be available to attend site in an emergency.

Overview

Offered as a 12 month Fixed Term Contract, the overall purpose of the role is to ensure that the health, safety, environment and quality policies and procedures within Tokamak Energy are fully deployed and compliant with UK regulations and ISO standards. 

The role holder will provide safety, advice and assistance on all Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) related issues in support of the business strategy, to its managers and the leadership team. This will include attendance at operational EHS and other business meetings.

As an EHS BP you will work closely with all stakeholders to ensure compliance with safety legislation, guidance and industry best practice, and the active implementation of a culture of caring and EHS initiatives.

You will be required to understand and work with Tokamak Energy quality and management systems aligned with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 & ISO 45001.

Requirements

  • Relevant working knowledge of HSE requirements
  • Previous experience within a health & safety role ideally within an engineering environment.
  • Excellent working knowledge of UK health, safety and environmental legislation.
  • Good knowledge and practical application of HSE legislation.
  • Experience of working to ISO45001/OHSAS18001 and ISO14001 standards.
  • Competent communicator (both written and verbal).
  • Relevant qualification in Health & Safety
  • Relevant membership of IOSH

Responsibilities

  • Be part of a proactive EHS team that works across the company and with all stakeholders to implement and maintain a world class safety culture.
  • Provide competent advice and guidance on all aspects of health, safety, environment and quality including hazard identification, the preparation and implementation of safe systems of work and risk assessments and make them a reality for everyone.
  • Compile accident and incident reports and undertake incident investigations as required.
  • Collate accident statistics, categorise accidents and undertake trend analysis, root cause identification, and recommended preventive action.
  • Conduct safety and environmental audits and implement corrective measures as required.
  • Prepare collate and review safety related documentation submitted by both internal and external stakeholder’s including - Safety Plans, Training documents, Confined spaces, noise and vibration assessments, MSDS / COSHH data and assessments and environmental risk assessment’s
  • Implement proactive and reactive safety measures as required
  • Liaise with Health and Safety Executive, Environment Agency or other government appointed body as required
  • Ensure site compliance with the Health and Safety policies and procedures
  • Promoting a positive and proactive culture towards health, safety, and environmental matters at all levels within the business.
  • Support the delivery internal EHS training/coaching sessions as necessary to new and existing employees and members of the supply chain as required. This may include developing tool box talks and safety inductions.

Hazard-specific / Safety-critical duties

This job includes the following hazards or safety-critical activities which will require successful pre-employment health screening through our occupational health service before the successful candidate will be allowed to start work:

  • Night working (11pm-6am) (very occasionally)
  • Work with cryogenic fluids including liquid nitrogen
  • Working with or in the vicinity of equipment that produces high magnetic fields
  • Working with class 3B or 4 lasers
  • Working with materials that are managed under the control of substances hazardous to health regulations (COSHH)
