Our mission is to create a more sustainable future by transforming the way we power our world. Energy storage is critical to this transformation, yet today the market is fragmented and customers face the challenge of finding a trusted technology partner amidst conflicting technical claims, inexperienced vendors and installers, and new market entrants with limited power sector knowledge.

Fluence brings the proven technology solutions and services that overcome the commercial and regulatory barriers that stand in the way of modernizing our energy networks. We are the partner that can deliver at a global scale with the most experienced and knowledgeable team in the world.

ABOUT THE POSITION:
This position is within Fluence’s Digital team and focused on Fluence’s optimisation and algorithmic bidding software offering, Mosaic. Mosaic is the most widely adopted algorithmic bidding software tool in use in the Australian National Electricity Market (NEM) and is currently used by dozens of semi-scheduled wind & solar generators and more than a dozen grid-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS), to optimise and streamline their market participation. Fluence Digital’s clients range from large established gentailers, to small new-entrant IPPs, and the energy assets using the Mosaic software have a diversity of configurations, capabilities, and commercial objectives.

The Energy Trading Analyst will be an integral member of the Fluence Digital team, supporting colleagues (internally) and clients (externally) with subject matter expertise and expert analytical advice regarding the effectiveness of bidding strategies and optimisation techniques at BESS assets using Fluence’s Mosaic software.

The Energy Trading Analyst will develop deep subject matter expertise in the use of Fluence’s bidding tools and the way BESS interface with the NEM, and will promote overall client success and satisfaction by providing clients with expert advice on recommended bid strategy settings and periodic fine-tuning of key optimisation input settings, to help Fluence’s clients maximise the value they get from use of the Mosaic software.

The Energy Trading Analyst is an analytical role with client-facing elements - the Energy Trading Analyst will have opportunities to present analysis and advice directly to clients (typically, the client’s Spot Trading or Market Operations teams), and to measure the impact of that advice. The role will also have opportunities to support the Sales and Marketing Teams with expert perspective and periodic public thought leadership activities.

The Fluence Digital team has existing staff and office space in Melbourne, Hobart, and Sydney, though Australian-based remote candidates are welcome to apply. The role will join a small but growing team of analysts, reporting to the APAC Director of Solutions Engineering & Analytics. The role will have close interaction with the Digital Product Management, Data Science, and Customer Success teams.

This is an opportunity to join a growing team of NEM subject matter experts and problem solvers, and to work directly on and make meaningful contributions to several of the largest and most innovative operational BESS projects in the market. In this role you will have the opportunity to become one of the NEM’s leading experts on BESS operations and market trading and will be truly working on the front lines of the NEM’s energy transition.

Key role responsibilities include:
·        Leverage Fluence’s existing analytical tools and processes for analysing the effectiveness of Fluence’s bidding strategies and configurable parameters, and contribute to the development of new analytical tools and capabilities.
·        Monitor the trading outcomes of Mosaic-bid BESS assets, conducting ex-post reviews to ensure that any issues are identified, and associated lessons learned socialised appropriately to internal and external stakeholders (as well as ensuring successes are highlighted and celebrated).
·        Monitor the market and provide proactive, ex-ante advice to clients in relation to any market conditions that may warrant intervention or override of the algorithmic bid strategy, as well as advice on effective strategies to implement overrides.
·        Capture and understand clients’ commercial imperatives and objectives, and help clients leverage Mosaic’s features and capabilities to effectively achieve their objectives
·        Provide periodic data-driven bid strategy enhancement recommendations to clients, to drive improved asset revenue outcomes
·        Support the Fluence Customer Success team with reporting, analytical customer support, what-if analysis, and initiatives in support of overall customer satisfaction
·        Provide regular feedback to the Product Management team in relation to potential new-feature development and product enhancements by serving as a market subject matter expert and a ‘voice of the customer’.

What will the ideal candidate bring to Fluence?
·        6 or more years of work experience, with at least 2 years of experience in the NEM in a trading or market operations related role
·        SaaS company experience, and experience with business / enterprise customers preferred
·        Experience and knowledge of the NEM, including trading in physical markets and bidding systems
·        Experience and knowledge of BESS capabilities and value streams
·        Strong analytics skills & experience handing large data sets
·        Experience with data visualisation / BI tools e.g. Looker, PowerBI
·        Experience with SQL, Excel and analytics tools (ideally Python and/or R)
·        Eagerness to work in collaborative, dynamic, and team-based environments
·        Willingness to learn quickly on-the-job across a range of technical subject matters
