We have an exciting and challenging opportunity for an EHS Engineer – Electrical Safety Specialist. You will work in collaboration with Engineering, Facilities and outside suppliers to develop and implement robust electrical safety standards throughout the organization. You will serve as our Subject Matter Expert responsible for the safety review of the design and development of electrical equipment; adherence of electrical systems to functional and regulatory standards and the review of vendor electrical designs to ensure they meet internal safety standards and best practices. You have proven experience in lab or manufacturing facilities.

You will be based at our facility in San Carlos, CA, and will report to the VP of Business Operations.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establish standards for electrical safety design, documentation and training
  • Interpret applicable electrical safety regulations and standards and provide gap analyses
  • Perform risk assessments (e.g., HAZOP, FMEA, etc.)
  • Conduct design reviews and participate in technical evaluations
  • Deploy systems for effective de-energization, lockout/tag-out and verification of zero energy on products and systems to control/eliminate electrical hazards
  • Provide field troubleshooting and problem-solving of issues caused by a design failure
  • Represent EHS on initiatives and projects related to electrical safety programs, including new labs and equipment design
  • Oversee day-to-day compliance with EHS policies and regulations
  • Oversee weekly safety inspections of the facility and key equipment
  • Conduct task hazard assessments and job safety analyses of new processes and materials
  • Conduct Environmental, Health and Safety compliance audits and track audit findings to completion
  • Complete and submit required regulatory paperwork
  • Maintain accurate records of all electrical safety inspections, audits, and related activities
  • Conduct electrical safety training for employees, contractors and other stakeholders on the proper use of electrical equipment and personal protective equipment

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS degree in electrical engineering or related field, or Certified Electrical Safety Compliance Professional (CESCP) certificate
  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience with electrical safety responsibilities
  • 10+ years of relevant professional experience with electrical safety responsibilities without a degree
  • Working knowledge of relevant environment, health and safety regulations, codes and standards, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Electrical Standards (NFPA 79, NFPA 70-E, IEC 60204-1, UL508A) along with demonstrated working experience on and around energized equipment Knowledge of Safety Standards (ISO 13849-1, ISO 10218, UL1740, ANSI/RIA15.06)
  • Knowledge of appropriate safety precautions and required PPE, to ensure a safe work environment for personnel and equipment
  • Working knowledge of emergency response procedures for energized equipment
  • Experience developing and implementing LOTO procedures
  • Excellent communication skills, analytical skills, problem solving and human relations skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous background in manufacturing/biotechnology/clean technology with attention to electrical highly
  • Experience with a trade (plumbing, electrician, controls, HVAC or pipefitting)
  • Experience with purified water (RO/DI)
  • Experience with Power Systems

$142,000$189,000 USD

Actual base salary offered to the hired applicant will be determined based on their work location, level, qualifications, job-related skills, as well as relevant education or training and experience.​
