Role Description
We are looking for a Director of R&D to lead our Form Futures team, which develops next-generation technologies in support of our aggressive technology and product development roadmaps. Form Futures has three strategic pillars: 1) iron-air (core technology) roadmap, 2) next-generation energy storage chemistries, and 3) blue sky energy technology concepts that leverage our technologies and expertise. The ideal candidate is a technical visionary and experienced people manager who takes ownership of the function and all aspects of the execution. The ideal candidate will bring direct experience from research and development of electrochemical technologies that have been productized and will have a demonstrated track record of technical team management, leading a team to achieve aggressive goals with limited budgets and tight timelines. This is an opportunity to take on a significant technical leadership role within the company, reporting directly to the CTO.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead the Form Futures team responsible for Form Energy’s next-generation technology development
  • Partner closely with product management, supply chain, and other technology teams to identify and execute on an aggressive and agile R&D agenda
  • Manage rapid design, prototyping, and testing cycles to rapidly evaluate technology concepts
  • Establish project objectives, milestones, and success criteria and make clear go/no go decisions on projects
  • Define and develop appropriate techno-economic models that balance speed and accuracy appropriately with technology maturity
  • Hire, develop, and lead a world-class team of engineers and scientists to achieve these outcomes
  • Embody and champion Form Energy’s values of Humanity, Excellence, and Creativity by managing with an emphasis on innovative problem solving, rapid cycles of learning, and high standards for quality of work products and throughput.
  • What You'll Bring:

  • M.S. or higher in engineering or physical science
  • 12+ years of professional experience (8+ in a leadership role)
  • Experience in the development of one or more commercialized electrochemical product
  • Demonstrated track record of leading innovative cross-functional teams to deliver results against tight timelines and budgets, often requiring or involving significant invention.
