ICON is looking for a Director of Software Infrastructure who will lead technical teams that develop components and infrastructure for ICON’s BuildOS platform. BuildOS is ICON’s platform that digitizes and automates the house construction process from end to end. The Director of Software Infrastructure will report to the VP of BuildOS and will lead the development of reusable “internal open source” platform components, devops infrastructure, and tools. They will also be responsible for specifying architectural standards across software groups in BuildOS. This role is based at ICON’s Austin, TX lab.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead a technical team consisting of software engineers, project managers, and group managers to deliver rock-solid platform components and tools for ICON’s BuildOS platform, and generally for all software at ICON.
  • Create a frictionless development, deployment, and ops experience for all software teams at ICON.
  • Specify best practices and architectures for software development that cut across software teams.
  • Specify tools and technologies for software devops across ICON.
  • Specify and maintain the Building Information Model (BIM) that underpins the BuildOS platform.
  • Ensure reliability and operability of all ICON software products in the field via tools, best practices, and platform components.
  • Collaborate with the product team to develop roadmaps and product strategies.
  • Develop budgets and hiring goals for your organization.
  • Assist in recruiting and staffing your team.
  • Work with engineers, project managers, and group managers in your team to develop their careers.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years experience leading software teams with a proven track record of delivering production applications at enterprise to global scale.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or computer engineering, or equivalent technical degree and relevant industry experience.
  • Experience scaling software development organizations.
  • Fluent in modern distributed software and cloud technologies.
  • Experience facilitating large scale software development across many groups.
  • Fluent in modern software development technologies and best practices.
  • Excellent technical communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.

 

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Experience delivering software applications in the construction space.
  • Experience with Building Information Model (BIM).
  • Proficiency with one or more of the major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, Google).
  • Proficiency with network and online security.
  • Experience with big data infrastructure (Spark/Hadoop, columnar storage, etc).
  • Experience developing large-scale data-intensive applications.
