We are looking for a Director of Environmental, Health, and Safety to be responsible for the overall creation, development, and maintenance of an effective Global Environment Health & Safety (EHS) strategy and toolkit for the organization. You will provide effective team leadership and coaching on achieving world-class performance related to environmental health & safety and coordinating all interaction with internal & external EHS resources. You will proactively manage EHS team at our operations to comply with all applicable regulations and to create the necessary standards to achieve a safe and productive workplace and minimize the impact to the environment.

This role will report into our SVP of Operations, and can be based out of one of our four locations: San Carlos, CA, San Jose, CA, Devens, MA, or Natick, MA . This is in-person, onsite position with 25% travel requirement.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of EHS strategies, programs, policies, processes, systems and training based on industry best practices
  • Implement a safety-first culture through involvement and innovation with site leadership and operational teams
  • Monitor, interpret, and assess existing or emerging EHS laws, regulations, regulatory policies, industry practices, and determine operational and business impacts domestically and internationally
  • Help plan and participate in EHS compliance assessments and audits working cross functional, assessing compliance with EHS standards as well as local/regional regulatory requirements
  • Identify plant construction safety hazards and hazard mitigation strategies associated with regulatory compliance and accepted consensus standards for large scale hydrogen generation plants
  • Collaborate effectively with Environmental Project Managers of customer and their EPC to identify and mitigate associated Environmental, Health and Safety issues for successful project execution
  • Manage and ensure OSHA requirements and reporting, externally as well as internally
  • Manage EHS training program strategy, content, and deployment Including targeted training metrics and effectiveness analysis
  • Build and implement an environmental emissions monitoring program across Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, or engineering discipline
  • 15+ years of experience in EHS and Sustainability with international exposure 
  • 10+ years supervisory experience in manufacturing, laboratory, or industrial settings
  • Thorough understanding of medium voltage electrical safety and process safety related issues
  • Strong knowledge of Federal, State and Local safety and environmental laws and regulations. (OSHA, EPA, DOT, FAA, etc., and other applicable local requirements)
  • Technical and practical proficiency of EHS issues across research, and development, manufacturing, construction and chemical operations
  • Extensive experience evaluating and implementing safety controls for electrochemical systems, automated manufacturing processes, Hydrogen technologies, high pressure systems, cryogenic fluids, flammable liquids, and related technologies and process/material hazards
  • Experienced in using lean problem-solving tools (TOC, Kaizen, Six Sigma, PPI)
  • Experienced in developing and implementing Management Systems based on ISO14001 and ISO45001

$208,000$250,000 USD

Actual base salary offered to the hired applicant will be determined based on their work location, level, qualifications, job-related skills, as well as relevant education or training and experience.​
