Role Description
As the Director of Equipment Development in the Advanced Manufacturing team, you lead a team of highly innovative equipment engineers that embody the manufacturing processes for Form Energy’s core electrode technologies into robust, cost-effective production equipment that is scalable to gigawatts of production. As one of the key leaders of the Advanced Manufacturing function, you are responsible for innovation and development of electrode manufacturing equipment at Form Energy. In this role you will build and lead a highly skilled Equipment Development function that specifies, designs, develops, procures, and commissions novel manufacturing tools. We seek an established leader with a demonstrated track record of developing and scaling manufacturing equipment in materials-focused industries.

What You'll Do:

  • Build and lead a world-class equipment development function with expertise in all key process technologies used in Form Energy’s manufacturing plans.
  • Establish harmonized processes to specify, design, develop, de-risk, and commission novel manufacturing equipment in close collaboration with the Process Development team.
  • Embody new manufacturing methods in scalable equipment sets with excellent capability to meet cost, quality, and throughput targets. 
  • Develop and deliver low-volume equipment needed to support prototyping for next-generation R&D activities.
  • Define and implement best practices for manufacturability assessment, design for manufacturing, manufacturing cost modeling, and manufacturing partner qualification.
  • What You'll Bring:

  • B.S. or higher in engineering or physical science(s).
  • 10 years manufacturing and equipment development experience with at least 5 in a leadership role.
  • Management of custom equipment design and development internally and/or with equipment suppliers.
  • Experience in high-temperature manufacturing processes is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in driving down manufacturing costs while maintaining or improving product quality for complex electromechanical assemblies.
  • Experience managing distributed teams (nationally, internationally).
