WHO YOU ARE
Corporate development is responsible for leading and supporting strategic business transactions that deepen Sila’s ability to catalyze global energy transformation. As the first corporate development hire at Sila (reporting into the VP of Strategy), you will be a key leader in scaling Sila and next generation energy storage by developing and driving Sila’s corporate development strategy - increasing our technology, market, talent, and other capabilities through partnerships, acquisitions, and commercial arrangements.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Collaborate with leadership across the organization to develop strategies and identify partnership and acquisition opportunities that accelerate Sila’s vision of energy transformation for a more sustainable future
- Perform detailed analysis to evaluate the business implications of potential transactions, assess the viability of various transaction structures, and gain insight into prospective companies for partnership or acquisition
- Drive corporate development pipeline, including outreach and sourcing new opportunities, maintaining deal execution and negotiation momentum, and managing due diligence and integration efforts
- Establish a strong network of relationships with senior leadership from corporate development prospects and other industry players. Develop repeatable discovery, negotiation, and integration practices that optimize business value of transactions
- As discussions evolve, facilitate strategic decisions with key cross-functional partners and provide transparency to leadership on corporate development strategies, pipeline, progress, and outcomes
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- 8+ years of experience in corporate development for hard tech/manufacturing companies, with multiple strategic partnerships, acquisitions, and integrations successfully completed. Electrification or battery-related experience a plus.
- Proven experience and repeated success sourcing, analyzing, negotiating, and closing transactions, including completing several high priority projects at once
- Strategic and analytical problem solver, with ability to frame and quantify operational, financial, and strategic trade-offs to facilitate key cross-functional decisions
- Strong business acumen. Comfortable diving into multiple business functions and taking initiative in situations where thought leadership is either absent or unclear
- Effective communicator with varied audiences. Demonstrated history of relationship building and negotiating with senior executives
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- Move long distances (e.g. building to building) and be stationary for periods of time
- Operate office equipment (laptop, copier/printer, etc) in a fixed location
- Some business travel required. Otherwise, need to be physically present in our Alameda offices most or all of the time
