As an Autonomy Data Scientist, you analyze how the self-driving system performs across a wide range of real-world scenarios. Your work focuses on understanding disengagements, success rates, and other key metrics to assess system behavior, diagnose issues, and track progress over time.

These insights are critical for guiding engineering decisions and operational strategy. By delivering clear, data-driven evaluations of autonomy performance, you help Zoox prioritize improvements, measure readiness, and accelerate safe and scalable deployment.

Compensation
There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The salary will range from $169,000 to $203,000. A sign-on bonus may be part of a compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.  

Zoox also offers a comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off (e.g. sick leave, vacation, bereavement), unpaid time off, Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights, Amazon RSUs, health insurance, long-term care insurance, long-term and short-term disability insurance, and life insurance.

In this role, you will

  • Analyze autonomy performance metrics such as disengagements, success rates, and scenario outcomes to assess system readiness
  • Identify trends, anomalies, and failure modes using large-scale driving data
  • Translate data insights into actionable recommendations that guide engineering priorities and improve system behavior
  • Partner closely with autonomy, safety, and operations teams to align on success criteria and validate improvements
  • Help shape Zoox’s strategy for safe and scalable deployment by ensuring autonomy decisions are grounded in rigorous analysis
  • Qualifications

  • Experience driving decision-making at various levels in an organization
  • Familiarity with SQL, Python, R, or Scala
  • Proven ability to define metrics and build scalable analysis pipelines to evaluate complex systems
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical findings into actionable insights
  • Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with geospatial data analysis
  • Experience with Spark or large-scale data analysis
  • Familiarity with or exposure to experimentation platforms
  • Experience working with autonomous vehicles, robotics, or transportation systems
