Position: Data Operations Lead 

Location: Remote OK. Pivot has offices in Berkeley, Hayward, Ames & St. Louis 

Pivot Bio’s field trial program helps it characterize its microbes, supporting the key missions of developing new products, and researching how Pivot’s products can be managed to help Pivot’s customers. Dozens of Pivot Bio employees in its agronomy, field trial management, data science, and research teams work together to design, execute, and analyze these trials. The Data Operations Lead will work with these teams to ensure that we accomplish experimental goals and that our data ingestion and curation deliverable plan is aligned with our strategic priorities.   

Responsibilities 

• Lead the creation and execution of strategy for effective and successful coordination and ingestion of field trial data.  
• Manage the tasks associated with field trial data ingestion, ensuring communication of analysis plans, appropriate resourcing, and completion. 
• Manage and mentor a small team 3+ staff of data engineers and data quality analysts responsible for the ingestion, curation, and reporting of our field trial data. 
• Keep track and communicate the diverse goals, timelines, and priorities of data processing and analysis to ensure consistency of information across teams 
• Keep Pivot senior management stakeholders informed on the status of field trial data.  
• Build processes and systems that improve data flow from field collection to database to analysis. Processes that make it easy for the agronomists, data team, and scientists to work together on data collection, analysis, and quality control.  
• Advocate for data infrastructure that supports data flow. Work closely with software engineering to define requirements and inform infrastructure priorities.  

Requirements 

• 5+ years experience in data curation or data science and project management.  
• Team management experience.  
• Demonstrated Python and SQL experience  
• Excellent communicator with strong attention to detail. 
• Experience working with data visualization tools such as Tableau/Spotfire 
• Knowledge of project management tools [Asana, etc.] 
• Experience with REST APIs and manipulating databases in a user-oriented environment  
• Knowledge of statistical data analysis, R, and knowledge of agricultural field trials a plus.
