What success will look like for the Lead Data Engineer

• You will lead and mentor a team of 3 data engineers, providing guidance and support in best practices and technical skills.
• You'll work closely with our Enterprise Architect to implement a data architecture and operating model that provides an organisation wide framework to build upon.
• You will work collaboratively with the IT and Digital Technologies teams to design, deploy and iterate on solutions for the test data generated by our aircraft and standalone test-rigs. This includes collection, processing, storage, management, analysis, and visualisation.
• Collaborate with the wider business community (Finance, HR, Procurement, etc), in conjunction with analysts, to design/deploy data solutions addressing business needs.
• Ensure data quality, integrity, and security in compliance with industry best practices and regulations.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation to increase efficiency.
• Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies in data engineering.

Everything sounds very interesting but how do I know this is the role for me? 

We are looking for the following qualifications and experience:

• Experience engaging with stakeholders, providing updates to management, and leading/coaching a small team.
• Experience fine-tuning MSSQL and InfluxDB databases for performance and writing optimised queries (e.g. SQL, InfluxQL or Flux) for the retrieval of data by Engineering.
• Experience storing structured and unstructured data (e.g. Data Warehouse, Data Lake) using commercial products such as Azure Data Lake, DataBricks and Snowflake.
• Experience designing and implementing ETL/ELT solutions using commercial products (e.g. Data Factory, SQL Server Integration Services, Fivetran and/or Apache Airflow) while maintaining data quality, metadata, and lineage.
• Fluency in one or more scripting/programming language (e.g. Python, Bash, C, C++ and /or C#).
• Experience with data streaming (e.g. Kafka) to facilitate near real-time reporting and systems.
• Experience with Microsoft Excel including Advanced Functions, Pivot Tables and VBA Macros.
• Experience creating dashboards, reports and data visualisations using commercial products (e.g. Tableau and/or PowerBI).
