Position:  Data Analyst, LIMS Intern  

Summer 2023 Internship: May-August 2023  

The scientific computing team builds tools that help scientists track their experimental data via a laboratory information management system (LIMS) that manages samples in the lab and their associated assay data by collaborating with scientists to understand their needs and deliver appropriate solutions. 

Responsibilities:  

  • Shadow a lab team to understand the relationship between their lab work and data capture process 
  • Interview scientists and RAs to understand how data is captured and how people use it later 
  • Prototype solutions for data capture of an assay for that team in Benchling 
  • Gather feedback about proposed solution and adjust as needed 
  • Test MVP solution to ensure that it works 
  • Train team on how to use created module 
  • Create a dashboard that helps present results of assay to users 
  • Other duties as assigned  

Physical Demands:  

  • Job will involve mostly (95%) office work with occasional (5%) time spent in the laboratory to understand processes  
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, or fingers 
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing 
  • Communicating with others to exchange information 

Qualifications and Experience:  

  • Strong verbal and communication skills 
  • Ability to self-manage time and execute on assigned responsibilities 
  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in biological or physical science and interested in data/software  
  • Some familiarity with Python or SQL  
  • Experience working in biology or physical science lab
