Corporate Strategy Associate

About the role.... 

Corporate Strategy is a small team that reports directly to the CEO and works across a variety of critical areas, such as business development, capital markets, and commercial strategy.  We are looking for someone with strong strategic business acumen and a demonstrated ability to thrive and deliver results in challenging environments. 

This is a high growth role where few days and projects will be the same.  You will work directly with a world-class senior leadership team and learn how to grow a climate-tech company at the intersection of gene editing, data/machine learning, agriculture, and sustainability.  This role requires the ambition to tackle complex problems that are often technical and unstructured, but also the humility to ask for help early and roll up your sleeves. 

This role is based in Cambridge, MA (Boston) and reports to the Corporate Strategy Lead.  Role is not remote and may require travel ~1 week per month (expenses covered by company). 

As a Corporate Strategy Associate, you will… 

• Bring structure and strategic thinking to complex problems, communicating concisely in writing/presentations and building financial models to value opportunities 

• Work with Corporate Strategy Lead to support CEO in preparation for Board of Directors and Leadership Team meetings, working with senior internal stakeholders across all business functions (e.g., science, data/AI, product development, commercial, finance, people, IP, legal/regulatory) 

• Support transactions (e.g. fundraising, opportunistic) through close in areas such as presentations, data room ownership, and investor meetings 

• Provide support to commercial leadership team for critical business development and growth strategy initiatives through connecting to corporate growth priorities and building financial models/presentations to guide deal structuring 

• Work with Corporate Strategy Lead on special projects at discretion of CEO 

 You Bring… 

• 1-3 years of experience in management consulting, investment banking or corporate development/strategy in high growth environment 

• Bachelor’s Degree required - specific degree doesn’t matter, but must have strong corporate finance fundamentals (e.g. financial statement analysis, valuation, rapidly build DCF models) demonstrated in a strategic business context 

• A strong sense of purpose and drive to develop unique, high impact, and sustainable solutions 

• Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse range of individuals and audiences 

• A genuine eagerness to learn and dive deep - our business is fascinating, but highly complex and multi-faceted. Will require learning company-specific scientific, technical, operational basics 

• A collaborative mindset that is open to giving and receiving ideas, perspectives, and feedback 

• Proven ability to earn trust and deliver results working directly with internal/external senior leaders. Ability to manage internal cross-functional stakeholders 

• Self-starter comfortable with managing ambiguity, but not afraid to ask for help 

• Adaptability and enthusiasm for new challenges, innate curiosity, and a passion for learning 

• Creative and strategic thinking, willingness to be bold and take risks, and the ability to recognize and learn from failure 

Nice to have… 

• Experience in transactional due diligence, esp. private markets 

• Understanding of types of private/public market investors, common investing strategies 

• Background in life sciences, agriculture, or data/AI (not required)
