About the company:

M-KOPA is a fintech and digital financial services company that provides smartphones and a range of financial products to everyday earners across sub-Saharan Africa, operating in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, and Uganda. The company uses an asset-financing model that allows customers to make an initial deposit on a smartphone and then pay it off through affordable daily, weekly, or monthly installments, building a credit history in the process. This approach has enabled M-KOPA to serve over 10 million customers and unlock more than $2 billion in credit for individuals who are largely excluded from traditional financial systems. M-KOPA's suite of services extends beyond device ownership to include digital loans, health insurance, device protection, and affordable data bundles, all designed to expand economic opportunity for low-income populations. The company also operates a large network of over 35,000 sales agents, many of whom are themselves beneficiaries of the economic empowerment model M-KOPA promotes. M-KOPA has been recognized among the world's top fintech companies and continues to scale its impact across the African continent. While M-KOPA is primarily categorized as a fintech company, its roots are in the renewable energy and pay-as-you-go solar sector, where it pioneered off-grid solar solutions for underserved communities before expanding into smartphones and broader financial services. This evolution reflects the company's enduring mission to connect underserved populations to transformative technologies and financial tools that improve quality of life and drive sustainable economic inclusion.

We are looking for a Content Lead to join our Marketing Team; as we scale up and drive digital and financial inclusion across our markets.

The Role

We're looking for a Content Lead to drive the brand positioning of M-KOPA Nigeria. This role is instrumental in increasing awareness, acquisition, engagement, and retention of customers, shaping the storytelling that shows up everywhere from blogs and newsletters to social posts and campaigns.

About Us

M-KOPA is a pan-African fintech platform that gives underbanked customers access to life-enhancing products and services, including smartphones, solar power, loans, and health insurance. We recently reached 10 million customers across Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Ghana, and South Africa, and our asset-finance model has unlocked more than $2 billion in credit. 86% of our customers report an improved quality of life, and 55% are accessing formal financial services for the first time. None of that happens without visual storytelling that people actually stop scrolling for.

This is a hybrid role, you would be working from our office in Nigeria, partnering with a diverse group of employees from our different markets and locations across the UK, Europe and Africa. You will be reporting to the Marketing Operations Manager.

What makes this different

This isn't a role where you write copy and hand it off. You'll develop and lead the storytelling direction for the M-KOPA brand, work closely with content creators, designers, and video and motion talent to bring stories to life, and have real ownership over how M-KOPA sounds everywhere it shows up.

What You'll Do

Storytelling & brand voice

  • Develop and lead the storytelling direction for the M-KOPA brand, spotting stories (inside the company, among users, in culture) and turning them into content people want to talk about.

  • Write and refine on-brand copy for social media, brand campaigns, website content, blogs, and landing pages, ensuring clarity, consistency, and conversion.

  • Make sure everything we publish sounds like M-KOPA and adds to our brand's voice and authority.

Content production & collaboration

  • Draft captions and short-form content for different platforms, pair copy with visuals alongside the design team, and create talking head videos.

  • Work with a content creator to bring stories to life through design, video, and motion.

  • Research and draft blog articles aligned with our content strategy, optimised for readability, SEO, and distribution.

Campaigns & strategy

  • Assist in developing content calendars and keep messaging aligned across blog, email, social, and ads.

  • Contribute creative ideas for campaigns and launches, and work with the marketing team on brainstorming, customer insights, and competitor research.

  • Stay ahead of local and global creative trends, tools, and platform updates, especially on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.

What You'll Need

  • Demonstrable experience (3+ years) in a creative leadership or senior creative role, ideally with an advertising or creative agency background, comfortable with fast turnarounds, diverse briefs, and high-pressure environments.

  • Clean, engaging copywriting with a strong sense of voice and tone, and the ability to think in headlines, hooks, and thumb-stopping formats across platforms.

  • Deep understanding of the Nigerian consumer landscape and social media, especially TikTok, Facebook, and WhatsApp, with strong presentation skills to articulate creative concepts to non-creative stakeholders.

The honest part

This role moves fast. You'll be juggling blogs, captions, campaign copy, and brainstorms in the same week, often against tight deadlines. But if you want your words to be the thing that makes millions of people trust a brand with their money, this is where that happens.

If this sounds like the role you've been quietly hoping existed, let's talk.
