Help us make a big green dent in the universe. We're on a mission to drive the global renewable energy revolution, and we need many more people to help us make our vision a reality.

Octopus Energy Generation (OEGEN) is a leader in sourcing, investing in, and managing a wide range of utility-scale renewable energy assets. As we continue to expand our investment base, we are dedicated to building a diverse team that reflects the communities we serve.

Since our entry into the renewables market in 2010, OEGEN has achieved remarkable milestones, becoming a leading investor in onshore wind across mainland Europe, the largest investor in solar power in Europe, and recently venturing into offshore wind projects. Currently, we manage a global portfolio of over £7 billion in renewable energy assets.

Our operational portfolio consists of more than three hundred large-scale energy-generating companies. We take pride in our wind farms, solar power plants, and upcoming projects in energy storage and hydrogen. To support our ambitious growth plans and long-term ownership of energy assets, we are expanding our team.

We are looking for a Commercial Asset Manager - Associate Director to drive asset performance within one of OEGEN’s core funds. Working with the broader asset management and fund management teams, the successful candidate will build a strong understanding of the fund’s strategic priorities and use that knowledge to direct asset management priorities accordingly.

The role will be based in London, with flexibility and remote work options to accommodate your needs and maintain work-life balance. An average of 3 days a week in the office would be desirable. The role will report to the Head of Asset Management.

If this sounds like you then we'd love to hear from you.

Are you ready for a career with us? We want to ensure you have all the tools and environment you need to unleash your potential. Need any specific accommodations? Whether you require specific accommodations or have a unique preference, let us know, and we'll do what we can to customise your interview process for comfort and maximum magic!

Studies have shown that some groups of people, like women, are less likely to apply to a role unless they meet 100% of the job requirements. Whoever you are, if you like one of our jobs, we encourage you to apply as you might just be the candidate we hire. Across Octopus, we're looking for genuinely decent people who are honest and empathetic. Our people are our strongest asset and the unique skills and perspectives people bring to the team are the driving force of our success. As an equal opportunity employer, we do not discriminate on the basis of any protected attribute. Our commitment is to provide equal opportunities, an inclusive work environment, and fairness for everyone.

What you'll do

  • Drive asset performance for the representative fund. The role will take joint accountability with the Asset Management Director for the delivery of fund performance.
  • Bring a deep understanding of the fund to the broader asset management team. Use that knowledge to prioritise both asset management and personal time on the highest value areas across issue management, optimisation, and risk mitigation workstreams.
  • Provide oversight and support of ongoing incident management within the fund. The individual will step into incident management where required and will have delegated approval rights for the specific fund.
  • Call on others within the asset management team for support as required across both technical and commercial needs. Make decisions on using external support for delivery where necessary.
  • Lead stakeholder management for key approvals, alongside owning asset-level internal and external reporting. Expect to have a close working relationship with the fund Product Head.
  • Work with the asset management team to maintain relationships with critical suppliers and develop key market knowledge to support the delivery of asset performance.
  • Provide support across new investments, construction, and operating assets. This includes being involved in risk identification and mitigation, contracting strategies and management, and assumption reviews.
  • What you'll need

  • Senior Manager/ Director level experience in commercial or financial roles within the industry.
  • Excellent commercial skills, including significant experience owning material issue resolution workstreams. The individual should be able to demonstrate their ability to manage technical people and leverage wider finance and legal skill sets to drive performance.
  • A deep industry network of trusted advisors who can provide support as required and influence senior management within our supply chain.
  • Strong knowledge of the renewables market, including experience with typical project contractual frameworks and how the industry operates.
  • Experience working in renewable asset management with a good understanding of key technical assumptions, performance indicators, and risk management measures.
  • Ability to collaborate and work under pressure to tight deadlines on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • High commercial and numerical acumen, with a good understanding of key financial metrics.
  • Why else you'll love it here

  • Wondering what the salary for this role is? On a call with one of our recruiters, this is always something we cover as we genuinely want to match your experience with the correct salary. The reason why we don't advertise is because we honestly have a degree of flexibility and would never want salary to be a reason why someone doesn't apply to Octopus - what's more important to us is finding the right octofit! We will also ask your current salary - we want to let you know this upfront so you're comfortable talking about it on a call with us.
  • Octopus Energy is a unique culture. An organisation where people learn, decide, and build quicker. Where people work with autonomy, alongside a wide range of amazing co-owners, on projects that break new ground. We want your hard work to be rewarded with perks you actually care about! We won best company to work for in 2022, our Group CEO, Greg has recorded a podcast about our culture and how we empower our people. We’ve also been placed in the top 10 companies for senior leadership
