  Your Day to Day:

  • Guidance review and approval of design work from the project’s engineering teams, to ensure generation of a consistent and effective design and documentation set that meets the objectives for the aircraft programme, including working with the Chief Engineering Team at whole aircraft level (Level 1), and the Level 2 IPTs (Integrated Project teams) dealing with major systems and elements of the design (including but not restricted to airframe and structures; energy storage and distribution; propulsion: avionics and flight control)
  • Control of Transversal and Overall aircraft integration topics including internal and external geometry, space and weight allocations, electrical loads, interfaces between Level 2 systems, zoning for lightning HIRF Icing and Birdstrike protection, etc.
  • Approval of overall aircraft level safety analyses in line with certification requirements
  • Approval of all Level 1 and Level 2 design schemes
  • Ensure that the Engineering team adheres to Lilium design processes and procedures throughout the Development Phase in line with the Lilium Quality Management System.
  • Using Systems Engineering Principles and in line with the programme requirements, capture, understand, agree, document and flow down and flow up requirements for the vehicle.
  • Convene, and ensure that the engineering programme meets the requirements for, Independent Review as appropriate including Preliminary and Critical Design Reviews and Ground then Flight Test Readiness Reviews.
  • In conjunction with the Chief Development Engineer and the Airworthiness/Certification Department, propose and agree certification requirements and Means of Compliance with the relevant authorities
  • Ensure designs adequately consider requirements from manufacturing, procurement, and airline operations
  • Assist with development of philosophies and policies for airline operations including spares polices
  • Support and technically oversee the agreed Change Management system for the aircraft configuration.
    Provide high level oversight of the Flight Test programme including specifically safety, airworthiness, and achievement of test objectives
    • Approve overall planning of the test programme
    • Final approval of schedules and all associated clearance documents for blocks of testing
    • Final approval of outcomes from assessments of blocks of testing
    • Final approval of follow up actions to flight arisings
  • Technical oversight of ongoing development activities
    • Definition of modifications or additional supportive testing
    • Final approval of design and test outcomes 

 Your Profile:

  • University degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Physics (aerospace specialization, MSc/M.Eng preferred)
  • A minimum of 15 years successful design activity including technical leadership of a large aerospace engineering team, dealing with complex new products, or with very substantial multi-disciplinary modifications
  • Some level of understanding of all relevant engineering disciplines, but with particular emphasis on having - or being prepared to rapidly develop - a detailed understanding of high voltage electrical storage and distribution systems, propulsion, flight dynamics, and relevant certification
  • Ability to develop innovative design solutions
  • Ability to operate successfully in a matrix organisation
  • Proven ability to drive a programme to a successful and timely conclusion
  • Good interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Target-oriented, driven work style with analytic problem-solving skills is required
  • Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment is required
  • Enthusiasm for the Lilium approach to eVTOL in Urban and Regional transportation
  • Ability to work full time in Oberpffaffenhofen, west of Munich
  • Fluent English language skills are essential
