Role Description

We’re looking for a Battery Management System (BMS) Controls Engineer who will be responsible for developing algorithms and control strategies for large scale batteries. This engineer will work closely with the System Engineering and Validation team to create control models and algorithms for a BMS.

What you'll do:

  • Develop BMS software control modules behavior and interfaces.
  • Drive modular software architecture design that encompasses security, functional safety, memory protection, and performance.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers to define the BMS architecture, the control topology, peripheral section, sensor properties, and algorithms.
  • Create and model BMS algorithms and controls in Python and/or SimuLink. 
  • Develop controls for contactor closing, SOC, SOH, balancing, fault management, and current regulation. 
  • Work closely with System and Battery engineers to define safety and protection strategy based on given FTTI. 
  • Work with the System team to define validation and integration plans of BMS software controls. 
  • Write and derive Software Requirement Specification from Functional Requirements.
  • Work with HiL and system engineers on the validation cycle workflow.
  • Synthesize outputs from battery test data and models to implement algorithms for system performance and lifetime.
  • What you'll bring:

  • Excitement and willingness to learn as a member of a team developing ground-breaking technology.
  • Experience with controls and algorithm development in Python and MatLab. 
  • Familiarity with SiL and HiL testing processes for digital twin development. 
  • At least 3 years of experience in BMS development or other large system, distributed control applications. 
  • Experience working on battery algorithms such as SOC, SOH, SOF, balancing, etc. or similar nonlinear system control and observer design.
  • Experience with development of Functional Safety software. 
  • Experience with defining and or assessing software reliability, failure modes, and fault reactions.
  • Familiarity with system integration and validation processes. 
  • Experience writing software requirements and specifications.
