Role Description
We are looking for an entry level Battery Engineer to take a hands-on role in which you will plan, execute, and analyze electrochemical experiments that will advance our understanding and optimize battery performance for long-duration energy storage systems. This role will support the rapidly expanding battery test capability at Form Energy and aid in the improvement of cell build and test procedures. With this expanded and refined test capability, you will help to integrate new materials for the cell, support better understanding of cell degradation/failure mechanisms, and recommend design changes geared towards performance improvement. As part of a team of experienced battery scientists, engineers, and data analysts, this is an opportunity to have a direct and daily impact on the development of a unique battery technology designed to tackle climate change.

What you'll do:

  • Contribute significantly in the lab to help build, test, and characterize cells
  • Analyze electrochemical data from various sources (constant current experiments, AC resistance measurements, chemical assays, mechanical testing, etc.) to draw conclusions and drive decision making 
  • Combine characterization and electrochemical results to make root cause cell failures in order to improve cell performance understanding
  • Study and plan experiments related to component interactions and operational sensitivities to help optimize cell performance
  • Communicate your findings within a small collaborative group of engineers
  • What you'll bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or related field 
  • Experience doing lab-based experimental work (e.g. undergraduate research or internship)
  • Familiarity with battery or electrochemical devices
  • Strong data analysis skills. Experience with JMP/Matlab/Python/or R a plus
  • A growth mindset to pair with a preference for experiential learning
