About This Role

As an Associate Process Engineer you will be a pivotal contributor to the commercial success of the Tree Fruit BU team. The BU team goal is to strengthen the existing organic apple product and, in the future, to bring to market additional tree fruit products. The core responsibility of an Associate Process Engineer is to execute trials and experiments to enable the BU to consistently meet product performance targets and deliver product value.

What You’ll Do

  • Execute experiments using Apeel formulations and various Apeel and packinghouse equipment (e.g., conveyors, brushes, sprayers, pumps, dryers, etc.) to improve Apeel product performance consistency
  • Collaborate with technical Project Manager and relevant Field Ops staff to share experimental plans, schedule experiments, and define roles and responsibilities for experimental execution
  • Demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills for data collection on long-term trials, such as storage trials
  • Develop skills to design experiments regarding formulation and equipment parameter optimization
  • Develop skills to analyze experimental data to identify process changes to improve product performance consistency
  • Monitor holdback data on a weekly basis to ensure product performance targets are met, and reports these trends internally and externally on a monthly basis
  • Assist with commissioning Apeel formulations and equipment for new packinghouses
  • Assist with the design, execution, and analysis of retailer demos/trials, such as supply chain trials and sales velocity analysis trials (i.e., “crop ups”)
  • Assist with product development trials for derivative Tree Fruit products, including but not limited to conventional apples and pears

What You’ll Bring

  • BS in Materials Science, Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Agriculture or a related STEM field
  • 1+ years of formal research experience in a STEM field
  • Experience with experimental design and process improvement
  • Experience with data analysis and communication of experimental plans and results to a variety of audiences (internal, external, technical, and non-technical)
  • Strong organizational ability and high attention to detail
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication in various technical fields
  • Ability to perform indoor and outdoor work in cold or hot environments and the ability to lift and move boxes of fruit (up to 50 lbs)
  • Willing to travel up to 40% time (for non-WA-based trials)
