About the company:

Factorial Energy is an American solid-state battery company headquartered in Billerica, Massachusetts, focused on developing high-performance energy storage solutions for electric mobility, defense, and AI-driven robotics applications. The company designs and manufactures solid-state batteries that overcome the fundamental limitations of conventional lithium-ion technology, including energy density constraints, weight penalties, and safety concerns associated with liquid electrolytes. Factorial's batteries have demonstrated real-world capability, including powering a vehicle on a drive exceeding 1,200 kilometers on a single charge using solid-state cells. Factorial's mission centers on advancing American technology leadership, economic resilience, and domestic industrialization of next-generation battery technology. The company positions its work as critical to U.S. national security, energy independence, and global competitiveness across the automotive, defense, and robotics sectors. With over 10 years of research and development and more than 150 patents and patent applications, Factorial has built a deep intellectual property portfolio and established partnerships with four top-tier automotive manufacturers, including Stellantis. What distinguishes Factorial is its capital-efficient manufacturing approach: its technology is approximately 80 percent drop-in compatible with existing lithium-ion production infrastructure, significantly reducing the cost and disruption required for partners to transition to solid-state production. The company also employs a proprietary dry-coating process to further enhance manufacturing efficiency and reduce costs. Recent milestones include securing its first commercial aerospace battery order and completing successful flight tests with partner Tulip.

Who We Are

Factorial Energy is a pioneering U.S.-based solid-state battery company driving the future of energy storage and electrification. Partnered with global leaders including Mercedes-Benz, Stellantis, Hyundai, and Kia, Factorial is at the forefront of developing next-generation e-mobility platforms for commercial, defense, and consumer applications—spanning electric vehicles (EVs), drones, eVTOL aircraft, power tools, marine systems, robotics, and more. The company has achieved multiple industry firsts, including being the first to power a demonstration vehicle with a global OEM (Mercedes-Benz) that achieved over 1,200 km (749 mi) of range, and the first to earn UN 38.3 certification for automotive-sized lithium-metal solid-state cells, and the first to deliver B-samples of automotive-sized solid-state batteries to major OEMs.

The Opportunity

Factorial Energy is seeking an Assembly Equipment Technician to join our Cheonan, South Korea site. This role takes charge of daily operation, troubleshooting, routine maintenance, and minor optimization of core assembly equipment, including Notching, Stacking, Welding, and Sealing machines for Silicon Power Cell pouch cell lines. The incumbent will conduct on-site equipment debugging, abnormality disposal, regular preventive maintenance, support pilot trials and mass production ramp-up, assist engineers in equipment retrofitting and parameter verification, and maintain stable running of assembly stations. You will operate in a fast-growing, early-stage battery manufacturing environment with cross-functional global collaboration.

In this role, you will:

  • Perform daily startup inspections, routine preventive maintenance, and breakdown troubleshooting for Notching, Stacking, Ultrasonic Welding, and Sealing assembly equipment to minimize unplanned downtime.
  • Complete regular equipment lubrication, part replacement, fixture cleaning, and calibration
  • Record maintenance logs, equipment failure data, and spare parts consumption records completely.
  • Adjust basic machine process parameters, positioning coordinates, tension, and compaction pressure on site to mitigate common defects such as stacking misalignment, tab welding void, sealing leakage, and notching burr.
  • Assist equipment engineers in prototype debugging, FAT/SAT on-site acceptance, EVT/DVT/PVT pilot tests, NPI new product trials, and mass production parameter verification.
  • Cooperate with production, process, and quality teams to handle on-site equipment abnormalities, follow up on improvement actions, and support CAPA implementation for recurring machine issues.
  • Support minor equipment retrofits, fixture replacement, and multi-spec pouch cell product changeover; feed back equipment structural and functional defects to vendors and the engineering team.
  • Monitor real-time equipment running status, collect abnormal data, summarize recurring failure modes, and propose simple optimization suggestions to improve line OEE and production yield.
  • Strictly follow equipment SOP, safety operation rules, and IATF 16949 on-site management requirements to standardize daily equipment operation and maintenance work.

We are looking for people who:

  • College diploma or above, majoring in Mechatronics, Mechanical Maintenance, Electrical Automation, or related technical disciplines.
  • 2+ years of hands-on maintenance experience in a lithium battery assembly workshop, familiar with Notching, Stacking, Tab Welding, or Cell Sealing automation equipment.
  • Able to independently complete equipment daily maintenance, breakdown diagnosis, and on-site minor adjustments; understand basic servo, cylinder, CCD positioning, and pneumatic/hydraulic control principles.
  • Capable of reading simple mechanical and electrical sketches; proficient in fixture disassembly, assembly, and replacement.
  • Familiar with workshop 5S, equipment maintenance record management, and able to fill maintenance, failure, and production shift logs accurately.
  • Strong on-site problem response capability; able to cooperate cross-functionally with production, quality and engineering staff.
  • Basic English reading ability for equipment operation manuals and simple technical instructions; basic Chinese communication capability is preferred.
  • Able to work shift schedules, adapt to a mass production workshop working environment, and possess strong safety awareness and execution ability.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Rich hands-on experience maintaining full set assembly line equipment covering Notching, Stacking, Welding and Sealing processes.
  • Working experience in battery manufacturers with mass production stacking & sealing line maintenance background.
  • Practical experience supporting silicon anode / high-expansion electrode pouch cell assembly equipment debugging and maintenance.
  • Experience supporting pilot line trial production and equipment transfer from lab to mass workshop.
  • Basic knowledge of IATF 16949 workshop site management, PFMEA, and equipment abnormality closed-loop management.
