About the company:

Revolutionising urban air mobility and electrifying air travel

Our Mission

At Vertical Aerospace, we are pioneering the way for electric aviation. The VX4, our eVTOL (electric, vertical, take-off and landing), 'zero emissions' aircraft will set a new safety standard for how we will navigate the sky.

We won't realise our mission following the same legacy processes and traditions our predecessors followed, instead, we want to 'redefine' aerospace best practices.

We are growing quickly from a prototype business to a scaling SME, and the next few years will be critical to our success and delivering on our ambitious goals of having the VX4 in service by 2030.

What to expect

As a Powertrain Systems Engineer, you will join a growing team of passionate individuals whose primary focus is to develop deep knowledge and expertise in the Powertrain systems that power our fully electric VX4 aircraft.

A typical day could range from conducting trade-off studies and architecture development to collaborating with cross-functional teams on integration testing and certification activities. You will work closely with various stakeholders to capture requirements and drive a consistent systems engineering approach within the Vehicle Functional Department.

What you'll do

  • You will be responsible for delivering the development strategy for the Powertrain systems lifecycle, from architecture and requirements to qualification.

  • You will take ownership of stakeholder requirement capture, analysis, and management.

  • You will drive forward development, optimization, and advocacy of a consistent systems engineering approach within the Vehicle Functional Department.

  • You will support certification activities, conduct safety assessments based on ARP4761, and support risk reduction efforts.

  • You will define our verification & validation approach to support VX4 certification.

  • You will lead collaborative relationships across the Engineering organisation to perform system and sub-system integration testing.

  • You will identify crucial Powertrain performance factors and develop strategies to optimize them.

What you'll bring

  • A relevant engineering degree or equivalent demonstrable relevant career experience.

  • Demonstrable experience in Systems Engineering (aerospace experience preferred but not mandatory).

  • Proven experience working on different parts of the Systems Engineering lifecycle.

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

  • Experience influencing others and working effectively in cross-functional environments.

Desired

  • Experience working across a Certification program.

  • Experience implementing certification aerospace standards such as ARP4754B, ARP4761, SC VTOL, and SC E-19.

  • Experience collaborating with both internal Airworthiness and external Authorities.

  • Experience with System architecture development, ideally using MBSE approach and tools.

What can you expect from us?

We're on a mission. Where others see limits, we see opportunity, and we work at pace. Working at Vertical isn't your average role but for those seeking a challenge, a flexible, supportive organisation and an incredible team; working here is an opportunity to do the best work of your career.

Our approach promotes ingenuity and courage, while our environment builds success through diligence in safety and being open in the way we work. The only way we're going to assure the next chapter of aviation history is by working as a team, relentlessly, towards our goal.

Our benefits

Our people matter - we're not going anywhere without them. Which is why our company benefits go beyond the essentials.

  • 26 days holiday, plus bank holiday
