About the company:

Revolutionising urban air mobility and electrifying air travel

Our Mission
At Vertical Aerospace, we are pioneering the future of electric aviation. Our VX4 eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing) aircraft is designed to set a new benchmark for zero-emissions air travel and redefine aerospace best practices.

We are moving at pace—from prototype to scalable SME—and the coming years are pivotal as we work towards certifying and operating the VX4 by 2030.

What to Expect
As an Advanced Flight Control Systems Engineer, you’ll join a high-performing and collaborative team focused on the development and certification of the VX4’s flight control systems. This role will play a central part in system-level design, integration, verification, and certification of advanced flight control technologies.

You will lead specific engineering activities independently while supporting broader, complex tasks under the guidance of principal engineers. The role offers hands-on technical development, supplier interaction, and cross-functional coordination—providing visibility across the full aircraft development lifecycle and a direct voice in certification efforts.

What You’ll Do

  • Define, integrate, and verify the Flight Control System, including architecture and interface design.

  • Author and manage system-level requirements, traceability, validation and verification plans, and test procedures.

  • Support development assurance activities in line with ARP4754B, ARP4761A, and associated certification standards.

  • Lead specific development and verification tasks, with responsibility for delivery to time and quality.

  • Contribute to certification planning, safety assessments, configuration management, and compliance documentation.

  • Support principal engineers and the safety team on complex engineering work, including FMEA, fault tree analysis, and safety case development.

  • Manage technical oversight of suppliers and participate in reviews and technical discussions.

  • Collaborate across disciplines including avionics, software, integration, simulation, and safety.

  • Contribute to the development and continual improvement of internal systems engineering processes.

What You’ll Bring

  • Strong experience in flight control systems engineering, with involvement across both design and certification phases.

  • Understanding of the full system development lifecycle, including safety, validation, verification, and compliance.

  • Familiarity with ARP4754B and ARP4761A standards.

  • Experience in leading technical tasks, verification campaigns or engineering work packages.

  • Comfortable working with suppliers and managing technical interfaces.

  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Desirable Experience

  • Knowledge of EASA SC.VTOL and associated Means of Compliance, or comparable experience in transport category aircraft or rotorcraft.

  • Familiarity with airborne software/hardware development standards such as DO-178C, DO-254, and DO-160G.

  • Experience working on eVTOL, rotorcraft, or high-integrity fixed-wing flight control systems.
