About the company:

Revolutionising urban air mobility and electrifying air travel

Our mission

At Vertical Aerospace, we are pioneering the way for electric aviation. The VX4, our eVTOL (electric, vertical, take-off and landing), 'zero emissions' aircraft will set a new safety standard for how we will navigate the sky.

We won't realise our mission following the same legacy processes and traditions our predecessors followed; instead, we want to 'redefine' aerospace best practices.

We are growing quickly from a prototype business to a scaling SME, and the next few years will be critical to our success and delivering on our ambitious goals of having the VX4 in service by 2030.

What to expect

As a Configuration Control Engineer, you will join the Vehicle Physical Design department, a team whose primary objective is to own the physical aircraft at vehicle level. You'll be part of a dynamic group managing interfaces and trade studies between the system and structural design teams to ensure the final vehicle is the best product we can deliver to our customers.

A typical day could involve maintaining the integrity of aircraft configuration data, coordinating change control board meetings, processing change requests in PLM tools, or supporting configuration audits from regulatory agencies. You'll work closely with Engineering, Planning, Manufacturing and Quality teams to ensure configuration data integrity from release to production.

Your ability to work proactively, manage complex data systems, and demonstrate compliance to regulatory standards will be key factors in this role's impact and your success.

What you'll do

  • You will support the configuration control manager with implementation of the configuration management process, including configuration identification, change management, auditing and status accounting.

  • You will organise and document the decisions from change control board meetings.

  • You will raise and process change requests in the PLM tool, ensuring workflow status is correctly applied and changes are documented.

  • You will co-ordinate and help document the impact analysis and closure of change requests in the PLM tool.

  • You will support the configuration control manager in providing configuration and change status account reports, analytics and maintain the visual management dashboard.

  • You will support the engineering function and project team in the identification and proper processing of configuration items.

  • You will apply effectivity management to the DMU under the direction of the configuration control manager and in accordance with change board decisions.

  • You will provide coaching and guidance to engineering and other functional users in the use of PLM toolset to view DMU configurations and change data.

  • You will support and take part in the execution of supplier functional and physical configuration audits as required by project.

  • You will support configuration audits from both internal stakeholders and by external regulatory agencies.

  • You will apply your experience to help develop the next generation of PLM tools and processes.

What you'll bring

  • Higher Education (minimum BTEC or HNC) in Engineering or equivalent in related field, or 3+ years related experience.

  • Familiarity with Airworthiness Regulations EASA Pt21 Subpart J (21.A.239).

  • Awareness of wider standards such ISO10007.

  • Demonstrable configuration management experience in a regulated environment – Aerospace is desirable but applicants from similar industries are encouraged to apply.

  • Hands-on knowledge and user experience of lifecycle management tools such as 3D Experience Enovia or Teamcenter.

We're on a mission. Where others see limits, we see opportunity, and we work at pace. Working at Vertical isn't your average role but for those seeking a challenge, a flexible, supportive organisation and an incredible team; working here is an opportunity to do the best work of your career.
