More about the team you will be joining as an Advanced Cell Test Engineer 

The electrochemistry team is responsible for delivering and verifying the cell for our aircraft programme. 

My Impact as a Advanced Cell Test Engineer 

This role will facilitate our electrical cell test capability at our Energy Centre in Bristol, providing key data inputs for the electrochemistry and modelling teams for cell verification.

What success will look like for the Advanced Cell Test Engineer 

  • Work with internal teams to understand and develop cell testing requirements Create, optimise and change-control test scripts which run on cell test equipment in our battery development centre 
  • Plan, prepare and execute tests in accordance with customer needs 
  • Periodic monitoring of live cell test data, ensuring high quality results
  • Creating/maintaining clear and concise test management documents, allowing the customer to easily view progress, delays, mitigations etc.
  • Establishment and management of the data flow of results to customer teams
  • Continually improve cell testing methodology and processes to ensure the quality, reliability and repeatability of test data, including the specification and selection of future equipment, instrumentation and software
  • Assess test requests and provide technical advice and guidance to engineering teams
  • Establishment of standardised battery test processes, procedures and battery test scripts
  • Establish and maintain data checking/cleaning processes to ensure a high quality and accurate test output for internal customers
  • Carry out post-test analysis, report writing and continuous improvement actions where required
  • Support and train members of the team in the execution and monitoring of tests
  • Work with external suppliers and internal facility teams to ensure equipment is serviced and calibrated according to requirements
  • Hardware and software problem finding and fixing in a timely manner
  • Other related tasks and activities 

Everything sounds very interesting but how do I know this is the role for me? 

We are looking for people that will have the following qualifications and experiences: 

  • A degree in an engineering or technical discipline 
  • 3+ years research or working experience in the field of lithium-ion cell testing 
  • Strong knowledge of battery electrochemistry and Li-ion technology
  • Hands-on experience of battery test operations
  • Experienced in the use of battery cyclers and environmental chambers, data acquisition and battery test scripting languages e.g. Arbin, Binder etc. 
  • A strong knowledge of the health and safety challenges around battery testing.
  • The ability to identify, prioritise and resolve complex technical issues in a timely manner
  • Experience in battery test methods and data analysis
  • Ability to manage their own time and coordinate with others to prioritise and deliver long-term goals with limited oversight
  • Strong critical mindset, working from first principles and academic research
  • Ability to learn new concepts and methods, propose design of experiments, and execute independently
  • Excellent technical written, verbal, and presentation skills, with ability to communicate appropriate, concise, and accurate information in a timely manner to internal customers
  • Problem solving skills, proactive and can-do attitude
