3D Visualization Software Engineer

ICON is looking for an open-minded, structured thinker who loves to solve complex problems and appreciates the value of prototyping and iterating applications over time. As a Software Engineer focusing on web-based 3D Visualization at ICON, you will be responsible for developing visualization and planning tools to streamline the residential construction process. This role reports to the Director of BuildOS and is based in our Austin, TX lab. 

Primary Responsibilities

• Implement new features and products to support our BuildOS design platform.
• Develop a 3D visualization framework to communicate complex, dynamic data accessible to a wide array of users.
• Design, develop, test and deploy reusable web-based 3D rendering components and libraries for use throughout a suite of applications within the BuildOS platform.
• Create tools to support 2D design conversion to 3D visualizations and machine instructions.
• Work with application and backend engineers to manage relationships between authored model data, backend data and rendering.

Minimum Qualifications

• Significant professional experience as a software engineer.
• BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• Work closely with a wide variety of stakeholders to rapidly analyze and reduce large requirements into small deliverables.
• Experience building platforms, micro-services, and APIs.
• Experience building 3D graphics applications on the web (e.g. WebGL).
• An ability to learn and develop skills. 
• An ability to communicate clearly and succinctly both in-person and written.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Node.js and TypeScript experience, with a functional programming approach, preferred.
• Strong mathematical background in geometry, linear algebra, numerical analysis and advanced 3D mathematics.
• Experience with modern JS Libraries such as Three.js, Babylon.js or other browser based 3D rendering engines using WebGL.
• Working knowledge of 3D game engine development and building graphics pipelines.
• Experience in interactive software development with working knowledge of Unity, Unreal, or similar game engines.
• Experience implementing textures, shaders and materials.
• React, Redux, and RxJs experience.
• Experience with parametric modeling frameworks.
• Experience with 3D software packages such as Maya, Rhino, Revit, Sketchup, Solidworks, etc.
• PostgreSQL, GraphQL experience.
• Modern CI/CD workflows: GitHub, Jenkins, Travis, etc.
