Your role and your team: 

We are looking for an outstanding Systems Engineer join our IPT Energy team that will drive the future of urban e-mobility and lead the design of our Battery Pack.

This position will report to the Engineering Manager, Battery Technology and will be technically accountable for Energy Storage System level topics regarding architecture, design, certification and delivery of the Lilium Jet. The Energy Storage System encompasses the mechanical enclosure, the cells, the cell supervision circuit as well as the thermal management system aspects – in both development and industrialization. The Energy Storage System being an integral part of the electric powertrain (EPS), your task will demand to arrive at optimal transversal solutions. 

Your Day to Day: 

  • Managing the development and implementation of our eVTOL's Energy Storage System, defining requirements and architecture, overseeing the battery pack mechanical integration team and ensuring that the end result is an integrated, safe and certifiable system in the aircraft-level context 
  • Drive selected transversal topics to arrive at an integrated EPS solution, engaging the propulsion system team and the energy management system team 
  • Review allocation of EPS and system-level-requirements and overseeing the break-down to sub-system 
  • Driving, approving and releasing Energy-Storage-System-level design documentation, incl. change notices  
  • Specifying and supporting system level validation and verification according to acceptable means of compliance, link with systems testing 
  • Cooperating closely with systems engineers within our system design teams regarding design, interfaces and control 

Required Profile:

  • University degree in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical/Vehicle Engineering (aerospace specialization, MSc/M.Eng preferred)
  • Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in the aerospace or automotive industry is required
  • Experience in technical leadership of small engineering teams is required
  • Experience with supplier selection, evaluation and management is beneficial
  • Detailed in depth knowledge of HV battery systems and their design principles is preferred
  • Good knowledge of thermal, mechanical, and electrical engineering principles is required
  • Skilled in systems engineering in accordance with ARP4754A, preferably also awareness of DO160 and DO178 and DO254 and DO311 
  • Good knowledge of a CAD system is required (Siemens NX is preferred)
  • Good knowledge of ISO GPS (alternatively ASME GD&T) and overall good drafting skills are required
  • Basic knowledge with PDM/PLM systems (Teamcenter or equivalent) is beneficial
  • Experience developing and working to system requirements is required, ideally using capture tools such as Siemens Polarion or DOORS
  • High level of self-reliance with the ability to work in a team, as well as autonomously is required
  • Target-oriented, driven work style with analytic problem-solving skills is required
  • Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment is required
  • Fluent English language skills are essential, fluent German or any other language is beneficial
